Sachin Tendulkar criticised for not attending even a single session of Rajya Sabha this year

Retired cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar has come under rare criticism for failing to attend a single session of Parliament this year, after being nominated as an MP in Rajya Sabha in 2012

Having completed a near perfect cricket career spanning 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar has uncharacteristically been showing lacklustre performance in Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Indian Parliament where he was nominated in 2012.

Having broken many a cricketing records on the field, the 41-year-old retired legend now holds the worst record in Rajya Sabha in terms of attendance, failing to attend a single session this year. In fact, in 2013, Sachin had an attendance of mere 3 percent and hasn’t participated in any debates in the house so far.

Senior Congress leader Rajeev Shukla even questioned the point behind Sachin’s nomination if the ex-cricketer was not going to attend any session, IBNLive reported. Shukla told IBN that he had talked to Tendulkar, who had promised to be more regular at Rajya Sabha.

Even film actress Rekha has failed to attend a single session in Parliament this year.

Naresh Agarwal, Samajwadi Party MP, was not impressed. “These MPs were selected so that they can be present and make difference in the society. But I have never seen him in the House,” he said.

Another criticism was landed by NCP MP DP Tripathi, who questioned the nomination of absentees. “Their performance in the House has been despicable to say the least. This is insult to Indian Parliament and such people should not be nominated to this House.”
