Sachin Tendulkar launches MRF's innovative cricket fan engagement app for World Cup
Ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has launched a real-time app conceived, created and hosted by leading tyre maker MRF for fans to cheer the Indian team at the World Cup that started on Saturday.
Mumbai, 13th February 2015: It’s time for the biggest prize in world cricket and India is back to defend its world title in Australia. While a lot of brands are riding this wave, MRF has used its cricketing expertise to come up with a first of its kind innovation for cricket enthusiasts in India. “Ride Along – Cricket Fan App” is the first Real-time Second-Screen fan engagement app for Cricket. Sachin Tendulkar launched the app in Mumbai and pledged his support for Team India through it.
“While the last World Cup was in India, this time the Indian fans will not get a chance to experience the action LIVE. Most of them will be glued to their television screens. MRF wanted to give these fans a chance to feel as if they were in a stadium. So we built the Ride Along – Cricket Fan App.” said Koshy K. Varghese, Executive Vice-President, Marketing MRF.
“While other apps give you staple things like Live Scores and commentary, our app gives you a chance to applaud for Virat when he hits a century or pray for Team India when it is in trouble, with thousands of other fans, all in real time! This is unlike anything Cricket fans have ever experienced before,” he added.
The association of MRF with cricket has been long and strong, and this app takes it to the next level. It is for all kinds of cricket fans. For the casual viewers, it gives you a chance to cheer for Team India in style – Wave the Flag to show your pride, Pray to help India in tough situations, Clap for a spectacular performance and Shout your lungs out to egg them on! For the Cricket Fanatics it has Cricket Trivia, Polls, Quizzes and more. And to add to the fun factor – it has caricatures of all cricketers, and fun memes that can be shared with the world.
“The idea of second screen engagement is not new to India. But it has not been used for cricket before. Today, fans are always connected with their friends through social networks and chat messengers. We wanted to give every fan the opportunity they need to fuel conversations around cricket. This app gives you fun sharable content during a LIVE match, that can be used by fans on Twitter or Facebook or any other platform they choose to converse on,” said Sandip Maiti, the CEO of Experience Commerce – MRF’s Digital Agency. “With this app in your hand, you can truly get the experience of a stadium in your living room.”
The World Cup has begun and so has the fan engagement in the app. It not only has fun features, but if you are riding along, you also have a chance to win great prizes. So are you ready to cheer for Team India like never before?
