Chasing 252 to win, Sachin Tendulkar was well on his way to deliver what could have been a sensational victory for India against Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the 1996 World Cup at Kolkata before he was stumped off Sanath Jayasuriya’s bowling.

His departure led to a meek surrender as India lost the next 6 wickets for just 22 more runs which riled the fans at the stadium to an extent that the match was awarded to the eventual champions Sri Lanka.
