Stats: Virat Kohli becomes the third Indian skipper to score 1000 Test runs in a calendar year

Kohli has had a superb year with the bat

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli achieved yet another landmark on Saturday, when he completed a 1000 runs in Test cricket for the year 2016. The 28-year-old right-hander required 35 runs to reach the mark and got to it with a fierce pull off the bowling of Ben Stokes during the third day of the Test.

The Delhi cricketer has had a staggering time with the bat in 2016 across all three formats of the game and has certainly gone a notch higher as far as his batsmanship was concerned.

Kohli has notched up as many as 7 centuries in whites in 2016 and has been the pillar to India’s success along with Ravichandran Ashwin, who has played a decisive role with the ball in hand.

He now becomes only the third Indian captain to register a 1000 runs in a calendar year after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, who got to the feat in 1997 and 2006.

At the moment, he is fourth in the list for the most number of runs made in 2016 with 1002* in 11 matches at an average of 59.05 with a best score of 211 that came against New Zealand in Indore in October.
