Over the years, there have been quite a father instances of father and son representing the country in cricket. Currently, Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh, the sons of former Aussie opener Geoff Marsh, are often seen playing in various formats for Australia.

If you look at England, fast bowler Stuart Broad is the son of former batsman and match referee Chris Broad. Interestingly, Sam Curran and Tom Curran, who also represent England, are sons of late Zimbabwe cricketer Kevin Curran. The Curran brothers moved to England, and are now seen as great upcoming talents.

For New Zealand, Lance Cairns and his son Chris, both all-rounders, played for the country with distinction. Also, wicket-keeper batsman Tom Latham, who has represented the Kiwis in 50 Tests and 98 ODIs, is the son of former batsman Rod Latham.

Among Indians, Lala Amarnath-Mohinder Amarnath, Vijay Manjrekar-Sanjay Manjrekar, Sunil Gavaskar-Rohan Gavaskar and Roger Binny-Stuart Binny are some examples of famous father-son duos.

If all goes well, a few more pairs could join the list. Here’s a look at some upcoming cricketers, who are sons of former legends.

Just a few days back, former India captain Rahul Dravid’s son Samit made news after hitting his second double hundred in two months. Playing for his school Mallya Aditi International (MAI) in the BTR Shield Under-14 Group I, Division II Tournament in Bengaluru, Samit struck an unbeaten 211 from 144 balls with 26 fours and a six.

Thanks to Samit’s innings, MAI posted a massive 386 for 3 in 50 overs. The other team, BGS National Public School, could score just 254 for 3 as MAI won by 132 runs.

Earlier, in December 2019, Samit smashed 201 for Vice-President's XI vs Dharwad Zone in an Under-14 inter-zonal tournament. In 2015, playing at the U-12 level, Samit displayed the kind of consistency his father is renowned for, with three half-centuries for MAI.

In 2016, Samit hit 125 while turning out for Bangalore United Cricket Club against Frank Anthony Public School. Samit and Pratyush G (143) featured in a 213-run stand for the fourth wicket as their team won the contest by 246 runs.

Arjun, the 20-year-old son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, was recently in the news for being chosen in the squad for the Mumbai Under-23 side in the Under-23 Col. CK Nayudu Trophy. Last year, Arjun was part of the 15-member Mumbai squad for the ‘Bapuna Cup’, a pre-season tournament organised by the Vidarbha Cricket Association.

In May 2019, Arjun got some media coverage after he made an impressive debut in the Mumbai T20 League at the Wankhede Stadium. Playing for Aakash Tigers MWS against Triumphs Knights MNE, the left-arm pacer claimed 1 for 21 in three overs as Knights posted 147.

Batting at number three, Arjun contributed with the ball as well, hitting 23 from 19, including one huge six. The Tigers won the contest by five wickets.

In June 2019, Arjun produced a fantastic delivery to clean up Surrey 2nd XI batsman Nathan Tilley while turning out for MCC Young Cricketers in the Second XI Championship in England. The wicket was tweeted by Lord's Cricket Ground's official Twitter handle with the caption "Arjun Tendulkar, take a bow!"

Earlier, in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in November 2018, Arjun claimed 5 for 30 as Mumbai defeated Gujarat. He also picked up 3 in 14 in the team’s win over Assam.

One really doesn't need to write anything about his superstar dad. With 15,921 Test runs and 18,426 in ODIs, Tendulkar holds the record for most runs in both formats.

#3 Austin Waugh

Former Australia skipper Steve Waugh’s son Austin was part of the team’s U-19 World Cup squad in 2018, which finished runner-up to India. A right-handed batsman and medium pace bowler, Austin made smooth progress for New South Wales from the Under-15 to the Under-19 side.

He grabbed the limelight with his 5/27 against Western Australia in the semi-finals of the national U19 championship. He was part of the Australia U19 side that took on Sri Lanka in Hobart, where he contributed with both bat and ball. This was followed by his selection for the U-19 World Cup.

Earlier, Austin impressed in the Under-17 National Championships in 2016, scoring an unbeaten century in the final of the tournament - in which he scored 372 runs at an average of 74.4 overall. He is also a brilliant fielder, as can be seen in the video below.

In January 2019, Austin was named among the substitute fielders for Australia in the fourth and final Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground - the same venue where his father bid goodbye to the game in 2004.

Speaking of Steve, apart from leading Australia to victory from a seemingly-hopeless situation in the 1999 World Cup, he was also renowned as a great fighter with the bat. His grit was best epitomized by his famous century at The Oval in 2001, batting literally on one leg.

Steve was also in charge when Australia won a record 16 Test matches in a row.

Undoubtedly, Austin has a tough act to follow.
