In absence of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli was given the responsibility of leading the Test side for the very first time. He reached Australia after a miserable tour to England where he scored 134 runs in 10 innings with a mere average of 13.4. Kohli opened the tour with a brilliant century in the first innings of the Adelaide Test. He helped India reach a respectable total.

Virat Kohli entered the ground in second innings with the team requiring massive 364 runs to win and the dark clouds of defeat overhead. Any other team would have easily gone for a draw but Kohli decided to attack back.

With the help of a brilliant partnership of 185 alongside Murali Vijay, Virat marched towards the total. He punished the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc on every corner of the ground. He scored a consecutive century in the second innings and registered his then high score of 143, becoming only the second player in the history of cricket to score centuries in both the innings of Test captainship debut.

Unfortunately, he was left to rue because of India's unfamous batting collapse. Virat was unable to take his team through as India were just 48 runs short. This Innings remarked the beginning of the Virat Kohli's triumph as an Indian skipper and a clear omen of his brand of aggressive cricket.

In a recent Interview after Edgbaston Test, Virat has considered this knock of 141 at Adelaide as his best knock so far.
