Charlie Griffith's Mankading incident was one of the earliest known incidents of mankading in international cricket. In a 1969 Test match between heavyweights Australia and West Indies, Sir Garry Sobers, Basil Butcher and Doug Walters played some knocks worth remembering.

However, the speedster took the spotlight on himself when he ran out Ian Redpath by Mankading in the fourth innings of the game. Chasing a target of 360, Australia were inching towards a memorable victory, but Griffith had other plans.

When Redpath was batting on 9, Griffith dismissed him in controversial fashion. This was the penultimate match of a 5-match series. West Indies won the first game, but Australia made a great comeback by winning the next two. A win at Adelaide would have clinched the series for Australia, but ultimately, the fourth Test ended in a draw. Australia went on to win the fifth match at Sydney to seal the series 3-1.
