In Cardiff, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. They posted an impressive 400, thanks to a century from their wicketkeeper, Prasanna Jayawardene. England managed to go past that score, reaching 496 thanks to a double ton by Jonathan Trott, who added 251 for the third wicket with Alastair Cook who scored 133.

Sri Lanka though hardly showed any mettle on the final day and were bundled out for just 82, Chris Tremlett and Graeme Swann picking four-wicket hauls. Sri Lanka lasted all of 24.4 overs, 20 by Thisara Perera their highest individual score.
