In a South Zone encounter, heavy-weights Tamil Nadu took on Karnataka at the Indian Institute of Technology Chemplast Ground at Chennai and in what turned out to be a high-scoring encounter, Tamil Nadu edged past Karnataka by just two runs.

Put in to bat first, Tamil Nadu raced to 316/8 from their allotted 50 overs through half-centuries from Abhinav Mukund and Kuthethurshri Vasudevadas, which laid a platform for the other batsmen to go big in the middle overs and slog overs. Stuart Binny, Abhimanyu Mithun and Vinay Kumar picked up two wickets each for Karnataka.

In reply, Karnataka started the run-chase on a positive note as Robin Uthappa notched up a century (117) and in partnership with Manish Pandey, who stroked his way to a 56-ball 57, the duo put up a 130-run stand for the third wicket.

However, despite a solid effort from the duo, Tamil Nadu ensured that kept things tight in the final overs as the Karnataka batsmen did not manage to score freely, and in the end, the hosts clinched a two-run win.

Karnataka faced Tamil Nadu at the Perintalmanna Cricket Stadium at Malappuram. Tamil Nadu won the toss and put Karnataka into bat. Robin Uthappa was at the top of his game yet again as he made his way to a 54-ball 86, but he was the only one who looked comfortable against the TN bowlers, as Karnataka were bowled out for 239 from 44.2 overs.

Tamil Nadu, in reply, rode on Murali Vijay’s 92-run knock to easily overhaul the target in 47.5 overs, aided by a handy contribution from skipper Dinesh Karthik, who remained unbeaten on 21 that went on to complement Murthy Prabhu's five-wicket haul on the bowling front.

Tamil Nadu continued their domination against Karnataka in the 2012 edition of the Vijay Hazare trophy as they humbled the hosts at home and pocketed a comfortable 62-run victory. Winning the toss at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru, the Karnataka bowlers dented the visitors early as the top three batsmen were dismissed for scores of 5,0, and 1. However, Dinesh Karthik made his way to a glorious century, a 132-ball 137 to help Tamil Nadu post a challenging total of 270 on the board.

Robin Uthappa got Karnataka off to a flourishing start with a couple of boundaries, but a fine spell of bowling from R Jesuraj saw the latter sending both the openers back to the hut, before some tight bowling from the rest of the bowling unit saw Karnataka losing quick wickets.

Towards the end, Lakshmipathy Balaji took little time to clean out the tail as he helped his side bowl out Karnataka for just 208, and in the process, register a 62-run win.

#4 February 17, 2013, at Vasco da Gama- Karnataka won by 7 wickets (with 28 balls remaining)

Karnataka faced off against Tamil Nadu in the 2013 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and came into the contest with a point to prove, having lost all the three matches contested between these two sides in the previous editions of the competition.

Electing to bat first, the Karnataka bowlers did well to restrict TN to just 250 on the board despite half-centuries from Dinesh Karthik (84) and Vijay Shankar (59), as Abhimanyu Mithun was at his best and picked up three wickets.

In reply, a fine start from Robin Uthappa (49) laid the platform for a comfortable win as post the opener's departure, Manish Pandey (81*) and Karun Nair (64*) combined to put up an unbeaten 123-run partnership that helped their side clinch an easy seven-wicket win.

In the most recent encounter between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Karnataka demolished the latter to register a 104-run win at Secunderabad in 2014.

Batting first, an unbeaten hundred from Manish Pandey (101*) and a half-century by KL Rahul helped Karnataka to 313 from their allotted 50 overs as cameos from Mayank Agarwal (40) and Vinay Kumar (28) also saw Karnataka grab the momentum ahead of the chase.

Post a top effort with the bat, a top effort from Abhimanyu Mithun, who picked up figures of 4/38 handed Karnataka the advantage early in the second innings, and despite half-centuries from Dinesh Karthik (63) and Yo Mahesh (55), TN folded for just 209 to present Karnataka with a massive 104-run win.
