Despite a good contribution of 48 runs by captain Virat Kohli, Team India lost to Sri Lanka in a very close encounter yesterday. Nevertheless, Kohli has become the third Indian batsman to play 100 consecutive ODIs for India.

Prior to him, only master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin had achieved this feat. Kohli started this run on 25 August 2010, when he played against Sri Lanka at their home ground. Remarkably, his 100th consecutive match was also against Sri Lanka.

In this glorious 100 match journey, Kohli has smashed 4,547 runs at an average of 55.45. This includes 17 centuries and 22 half centuries.

The record of most consecutive matches is held by Tendulkar, who had played 185 matches back to back. He achieved this in precisely 8 years’ time – 25 April 1990 to 24 April 1998. Azharuddin had played 126 matches on the trot.

With the amount of cricket being played nowadays, if Kohli plays continuously for 8 years, he might break Tendulkar’s record comfortably!
