The furore in Pakistan over the cricket team's debacle at the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 has prompted skipper Shahid Afridi to apologize to the fans for their performance.

On their arrival back home post their exit from the tournament, the Pakistani players were greeted with slogans of "Shame, shame!" at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. Afridi was not part of the team which returned to Lahore as he has headed to Dubai for a few days.

However, he spoke on behalf of the whole team on a video he posted on his Facebook page and sought forgiveness for crashing the hopes of his countrymen. The Pakistani skipper spoke about how he has carried each of their emotions to the field every time he walked out to play in the green jersey.

Shahid Afridi claimed in the video that the team that played in the T20 World Cup was not just a team of 11 players, but it was the entire country's team. An emotional Afridi said that he does not care about what will happen tomorrow or who says what about him, but he is answerable to the people of his country.

The 36-year old ended by apologizing for the fact that he and his team were not able to live up to the hopes and expectations of the Pakistani people.
