After a one-sided victory in the T20I series, India take on the West Indies in the ODI series which takes place on Thursday, 8th August at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. The Windies will surely want to make a strong comeback and they will be bolstered by the return of Chris Gayle and Shai Hope whose presence they clearly missed during the T20I series.

India, on the other hand, will want to test some new team combinations and try to get that No.4 position sorted out.

Venue: Providence Stadium, Guyana

Weather Report

Rain could play spoilsport to this ODI as the forecast predicts the rain to be persistent through the afternoon and a full 50-over contest might be hard to get.

Pitch Report

The Providence Stadium isn't a high-scoring wicket and has an average total of 233 in ODIs. And while the scores might not be that low in this game, batsmen need to be cautious as it isn't an easy wicket to bat on and any total excess of 260 will be a competitive one.

Head-to-Head Stats

West Indies

Hetmyer needs to step up in the ODI series.
Hetmyer needs to step up in the ODI series.

From the batting point of view, West Indies will be pleased to see Chris Gayle back in action especially after his fireworks back in Canada during his stint with the Vancouver Knights. He can be expected to open the batting with Evin Lewis although John Campbell is a pretty good option himself. Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer pretty much pick themselves while skipper Jason Holder's batting will be important too.

Sheldon Cottrell will be the key with the ball as the Windies can go with the same pace trio they went with in the World Cup along with Carlos Brathwaite. They also have only Fabian Allen as a spinning option hence Chris Gayle could bowl few overs if needed.

India

Pant was brilliant in the 3rd T20I.

India's top order is something which they won't worry about while KL Rahul can be expected to slot in at No.4 for the 1st ODI. Shreyas Iyer can get an opportunity due to Manish Pandey's failures while Rishabh Pant will keep wickets.

India have a lot of depth in their bowling and they are almost sure to play star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in this fixture while it'll be a toss-up between Kuldeep and Chahal for this one. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Navdeep Saini were sharp in the T20I series and they need to continue in the same way in the ODIs. Mohammed Shami's return too bodes well for the side as Kohli's men will look to go one up in this fixture.
