England, hailed to be the birthplace of cricket, is one of the traditional powerhouses of the sport. Although they lost their dominant status in the ODI circuit for some time, they have regained it, with a complete change in their approach since the marquee event in 2015. Pitted to be the tournament favourites, they have made it to the semi-final after a gap of 27 years.

England featured in the final four in the first five editions of the World Cup, from 1975 to 1992. Post that, they were not able to breach the mark, until their recent exploits in the present edition.

England have cleared the semi-final stage thrice, in 1979, 1987 and 1992, while losing in 1975 and 1983 against Australia and India respectively. They would be eager to improve on this record when they take the field in the second semi-final on the 11th of July against India/Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
