Ajinkya Rahane: 6.5/10

India's joint-highest overall run-getter in this game along with Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane looked set for a big innings during his knock of 49, but a casual stroke to fall right into Neil Wagner's trap sent him back. He tried to counter-attack with Rishabh Pant in the second innings, but wasn't quite able to find the gaps and a second soft dismissal meant he had to depart for 15.

Rishabh Pant: 6/10

The one Indian batter who tried a different strategy, Rishabh Pant took the attacking route with far less success than he enjoyed in Australia and against England at home recently. He would have ended the match with two low scores, but a dropped catch in the second innings allowed him to score 41 runs before he tried one shot too many and was caught.

Ravindra Jadeja: 5/10

India played Ravindra Jadeja as a batting all-rounder in this game, and the Saurashtra cricketer did have contributions in all three departments to small extents. With the bat, he contributed 15 with the tail and 16 batting alongside Pant to avert a collapse, but couldn't quite put pressure back on New Zealand.

Ravichandran Ashwin: 4.5/10

As the last recognised Indian batter, Ravichandran Ashwin looked good in the first innings before he was lured into a drive and edged to second slip. In the second innings, it was vital that he forged a partnership with Pant and lengthened the innings, but he perished two balls after Pant to throw the game away to New Zealand.
