The 4-3-3(2) or 4-3-3 Holding is one of the most popular formations used by EA FC 25 players. With the introduction of the brand-new FC IQ system, you can now utilize every individual player and set their roles according to your playstyle. The previous iteration’s ideas like “stay back while attacking,” “Stick to position,” “get in behind,” and “normal interceptions” have been chopped off from the scene. Instead of those, you can set more realistic roles like “Box-to-Box,” “Deep-Lying Playmaker,” and “Inside Forward.”

Coming back to 4-3-3(2), it's one of the most used formations in the top domestic or European leagues. CDMs play a key role in this formation as the whole team pivots around that footballer as they become the playmaker. Using the right tactics for the formation might render you unbeatable in any mode of EA FC.

Keeping that in mind, this article will provide you with the best 4-3-3(2) custom tactics you must use in EA FC 25.

After understanding the positions of the 4-3-3 Holding formation in EA FC 25, you must apply proper custom tactics to yield the best results in the virtual field. Here’s a detailed overview of the custom tactics to use for the aforementioned formation.

Firstly, the Build-Up Style should be set to Counter, and the Defensive Approach must be set to High. Here are the individual player roles and focus:

  • ST: Advanced Forward with Attack focus
  • LW: Inside Forward with a Balanced focus
  • RW: Winger with a Balanced mentality
  • CM (on the left): Box-to-Box with a focus on Balanced
  • CM (on the right): Half Winger with a Balanced focus
  • CDM: Deep-Lying Playmaker with Defend mentality
  • LB: Wingback with Balanced
  • RB: Wingback with Balanced focus
  • CB (on the left): Defender with Defend mentality
  • CB (on the right): Stopper with Balanced focus
  • GK: Sweeper Keeper with a Balanced mentality

The optimal Build-Up style for the 4-3-3(2) must be the Counter as the team will lean toward counter-attacking opportunities where the Box-to-Box Midfielder and Deep-Lying Playmaker will play a pivotal role on the field.

Talking about the forward line, the main striker will be an Advanced Forward, focusing mainly on the final third of the opponent. Meanwhile, any one of the wingers must keep the Inside Forward role to provide extra support for the striker. On the other hand, the other winger should keep the Winger role and utilize the sideline spaces for crossing and ground passes.

While one of the CMs will be a Box-to-Box to provide support in both attack and defense, the other can play as a Half-Winger to keep the pressure intact on the wing area. The CDM plays a pivotal role here since they must act as the Deep-Lying Playmaker who’ll pass the ball around the field and find spaces in the opponents’ defense area while supporting the CBs to negate upcoming threats too.

Both the wingbacks must focus on both attack and defense. Meanwhile, having a Wingback role might drain their energy too quickly. It’s recommended to keep other options ready on the bench or select a player with a higher work rate and stamina.

One of the CBs will stay intact in the defense area while the other will move slightly forward to put early pressure on your final third. Lastly, the goalkeeper should be assigned a Sweeper-Keeper role to make up the space for maintaining a high backline.

That sums up the best 4-3-3(2) custom tactics you must use to secure victory in-game. You are free to use any role and focus based on your preference but we think this should yield the best results in EA FC 25.
