What’s the story?

Epic Games, the company behind the Fortnite franchise, announced via Reddit that the “Additional Operations,” which is a part of the Secret Skirmish is cancelled due to technical issues.

In case you didn’t know…

Secret Skirmish is a two-day special invitation event for the top players from each Open Fortnite competition held so far. According to the announcement, the event would be held in an undisclosed facility on 14 and 15 February 2019, which will then be transmitted to the company’s official channels.

Additionally, Epic Games stated that they would use this opportunity to better prepare themselves for the upcoming Fortnite World Cup event.

The heart of the matter

The Reddit post read:

The initial plan was to hold a non-Battle Royale competition each night after the Solos and Duos matches to illustrate more competitive options in the Fortnite competitive ecosystem. Unfortunately, after testing on-site, we ran into technical issues that prevent us from holding these bonus competitions with the confidence needed to produce the show. We are removing the secret evening “operations” from the original schedule, and will continue with the Solos and Duos competition as planned.

Additionally, the $25,000 prize pool announced earlier for the competition has been reallocated to the Duos competition.

Players could now win up to $100,000 in the Duos competition and up to $400,000 in the Solos competition.

What’s next?

The developers promised that they will look into hosting these alternate competitions in the future, which means that we could still see them in the not so distant future.

Epic Games also announced that v7.40 update would be released on 14 February 2019, which should nerf rocket launchers, planes and improve Zipline interactions.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and select Android devices.
