The concept of romance in Ghost of Tsushima might be the most hotly debated topic in this entire fandom. There are scenes scattered throughout the game that could be considered something romantic, with one or two in particular standing out as the most interesting. As far as a mechanic that builds towards love in Sucker Punch’s open-world adventure, that might leave fans disappointed.

However, what these scenes do set up is the potential for romance in a sequel, should Ghost of Tsushima 2 ever get announced. This game doesn’t feature a specific romance mechanic, unfortunately, but here is what we do know about love as it pertains to Jin Sakai.

Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers for the late-game in Ghost of Tsushima.

Sorry to say, but there is no romance option or mechanic in Ghost of Tsushima. It’s something that some fans are incredibly delighted about - glad that the game is focused on Jin’s mission to destroy the Mongols. On the other hand, some think there were wasted opportunities with two characters: Yuna and Tomoe.

There were fleeting moments between Yuna and Jin throughout the game, with the samurai even remarking while sitting in a Hot Spring about how he missed “the touch of a woman”. Or at least, you have the option to consider that.

You certainly don’t have to. However, during the late-game mission, Eternal Blue Sky, you have the option to have a one-on-one chat with Yuna. During this conversation, they reminisce, but Yuna drops this line:

“We could find a boat, sail somewhere quiet while your uncle fights his samurai war.”

While she admitted she didn’t really want that, knowing Jin’s dedication to fighting off the Mongols, it is a line that could lead to romance in a future Ghost of Tsushima game. This is as close to real romance as the game ever gets.

There’s another brief scene with Tomoe, much later in the game. She wants to get revenge on the Mongols that betrayed her, and before Jin Sakai has time to leave, she claims he could “stay the night”.

This is another potential romance scene, but the protagonist claimed he couldn’t, and left to wrap the scene up. Neither of these moments leads to romance, either in the game itself or in the Ghost of Tsushima's two endings.

So, unfortunately, there’s no real romance in this game. There is no dramatic moment, or quest chain to grind through that unlocks a lover’s embrace for Jin Sakai. He could get there in a future game, and several seeds have been planted for love - should Sucker Punch Games develop a sequel.
