Reverse 1999, released globally on October 26, 2023, is a new RPG gacha game developed by Bluepoch for PC and mobile devices. It features a turn-based strategic combat style, where players fight with a squad comprising one Substitute and three active characters. The Substitute character steps into the battlefield only when a unit from your primary team bites the dust.

Choosing a few with over 50 characters at launch might pose a challenge. Moreover, selecting the best units is one of the essential factors for clearing stages and progressing swiftly. This article helps create a formidable team by dividing all playable units into different tiers according to their battle prowess for October 2023.

Reverse 1999 characters mainly deal two types of damage: Mental and Reality. A balanced team comprises one DPS unit for inflicting damage, one support for buffing allies or debuffing enemies, and one survival to heal or shield teammates.

Each unit possesses unique Afflatus or elemental types that interact with each other in a rock-paper-scissor-based system. Here are the details:

  • Beast beats Plant
  • Plant overpowers Star
  • Star defeats Mineral
  • Mineral is strong against Beast

Additionally, some units have Intelligence or Spirit Afflatus that are neutral against those mentioned above four and have pros and cons only against each other.

Timekeepers can make their units more robust by increasing their in-game level. Once they reach maximum growth, players can increase their Insight level, unlocking a new passive. Additionally, they can equip them with Psychubes or equipment to enhance their combat prowess.

Considering the above, this article divides all Reverse 1999 characters into SS, S, A, B, and C tiers. The SS-tier characters of this turn-based title are overpowered and help you breeze through the stages swiftly. In contrast, C-tier units do not provide much utility, and it’s best to leave them untouched.
