Since the early 2000s, Rockstar Games has helmed games like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas, which have been significant landmarks that helped shape the history of modern gaming. The titles are revered for their epic stories, relatable characters, great gameplay, and packed open-world maps.
While the studio has published dozens of games in the last two decades, quite a few older ones have seen less interest from the community owing to their graphics and gameplay becoming outdated. With the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes in production currently, here are five Rockstar titles that deserve to be remade for modern consoles.
Rockstar games that deserve a remake for modern consoles
1. Bully

- Release Date: October 2006
Most 90s gamers would have played Rockstar’s Bully at least once. The title was very popular upon release, with players taking the role of a badass school bully with a heart of gold. As the delinquent Jimmy Hopkins, players fight fire with fire by becoming the bully of bullies to end bullying in his school.
Many who have played these games fondly remember conducting mischievous activities in class, making smokebombs and stinkbombs in the lab, using slingshots to pelt marbles, skateboarding on the campus, and more.
While Rockstar Games did try to create Bully 2 for 18 months, the game was later shelved and forgotten. As such, we deserve a Bully remake for the modern generation of consoles.
2. Red Dead Redemption

- Release Date: May 2010
Red Dead Redemption is undoubtedly one of the best games ever made. Its expansive open world full of outlaws, bandits, and corrupt government officials experienced through the eyes of a well-written protagonist like John Marston perfectly encapsulates how deadly and unforgiving the Wild West truly was.
John has a layered backstory that players get to peel off one by one as his past comes back to haunt his present.
Its graphics and gameplay, especially in the newly released PC version, hold up pretty well even to this day. While almost every online chat forum has players gushing about how great Red Dead Redemption 2 is, the original game doesn't get as much attention. Hence, a Red Dead Redemption remake by Rockstar Games is justified.

3. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories

- Release Date: October 2005 (Liberty City Stories), October 2006 (Vice City Stories)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories are two of the best-kept secrets of Rockstar Games. These titles, initially released for the PSP, have great stories that take place in the iconic GTA cities of Vice City and Liberty City. However, they didn’t receive much media and player attention when compared with other GTA games.
While the original GTA trilogy — GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas — has already received a shoddy remaster, Rockstar Games still has the opportunity to deliver something special in the form of remakes of these underrated titles.
4. Grand Theft Auto 4 Complete Edition

- Release Date: April 2008
The story of Nico Bellic is still considered one of the best GTA stories ever told. While San Andreas and GTA 5 are the most well-known titles, GTA 4 often fails to get the same acceptance from modern gamers. During launch, the game faced technical issues, especially on its Windows version.
While Rockstar Games should start thinking about a GTA 4 remake, they mustn’t forget to include the two amazing standalone expansions — The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony — which most GTA fans didn’t experience.

5. LA Noire

- Release Date: May 2011
LA Noire is one of the most underrated Rockstar games ever released. In the title, instead of being a criminal who is rising through the ranks, players take up the role of a cop. They play as Detective Cole Phelps, tasked with uncovering a major conspiracy in 1947 Los Angeles involving his former World War 2 comrades.
Upon release, this game broke new ground for using motion capture technology that accurately recorded facial expressions. While many might argue that its graphics and gameplay still hold up well today, a remake for the modern consoles can still be a great opportunity to further enhance motion capture technology and remind the world of the slickness of LA Noire.
