Blizzard have announced that they will be permanently reducing the price of their first-person shooter, Overwatch. The price reduction was due to the increasingly tough competition from other free to play games such as Dota 2, League of Legends and Fortnite.

The price of the Standard Edition has been reduced from $39.99 to $19.99. The Legendary Edition, which gives you some bonus in-game skins as well as rewards for other Blizzard games such as Heroes of the Storm and World of Warcraft, has been reduced from $59.99 to $39.99.

It is becoming harder for game developers to justify their premium price tags, especially in competitive online games. Overwatch is definitely a fun game, but it also makes additional revenue from selling skins as well as seasonal event skins such as the recent Lunar New Year event.

Overwatch is one of the few esports games that has a price tag on it. It's not just Blizzard, Valve has also recently made Counter-Strike: Global Offensive free to play, along with their new battle royale game mode Danger Zone.

Is Overwatch worth picking up?

Overwatch is a 6v6 team game that has 29 different playable heroes. Every hero has a unique ability. They are mainly in three categories: Tank, Damage and Support. Tanks are meant to endure a lot of the damage in the game, Damage focuses on killing targets and Support mostly keeps your allies alive and assists them.

Overwatch also has different Arcade modes, as well as a Competitive Game Mode. The game is not just a first-person shooter, as it relies on players to strategically use their abilities. The objectives are usually to hold down a point or to move a payload to a destination.

The game has a reasonable number of players and it is really fun to play, especially with friends. If the style of game appeals to you, it could be worth picking up, especially if you are burned out by Battle Royales. You have unlimited respawns here!
