Splitgate 2 is finally out, and while the reception so far has been decent, the game has already found itself in a social media controversy. This started during the Summer Game Fest 2025 when Ian Proulx, the CEO of 1047 Games, announced Splitgate 2 and a new Battle Royale mode. During the segment, he wore a hat that said Make FPS Great Again, sharing the reasons behind making the game.
While the rest of the speech was nothing controversial, he ended up saying on stage that he was tired of seeing the same Call of Duty every year and wished to see Titanfall 3, which was officially canceled by EA. This bold statement caught the attention of many people online. One of the COD developers, @Daruma_IW, responded with a sarcastic post on X, but the Splitgate 2 media team clapped back with a post (now deleted) saying:
“Which Call of Duty does your team make again? I can’t tell them apart.”
While the response was deleted, the fans were quick to screenshot and reshare it. On that note, here’s a quick summary of everything that’s happened so far between the Splitgate 2 and Call of Duty communities.

Splitgate 2 vs Call of Duty feud on X explained
The controversy didn’t stop with just that post. COD fans were upset by the Make FPS Great Again cap the CEO wore, calling it disrespectful and allegedly hypocritical. Many people noticed that Splitgate skin bundles were very expensive. The Nano Swarm Bundle, originally priced at $145 and selling for $80 as a launch offer, caught the attention of many.
Players argued that the price of these skins is close to the full cost of modern AAA games. Taking the feedback seriously, the CEO issued a statement through a social media post. In the video, he first clarified that his earlier words and the sentence on the cap were taken out of context. Moreover, the Nano Swarm Bundle's price was reduced from $80 to $40. And as confirmed by Ian Proulx, players who paid the full price for the skin bundles before the change will get a refund.
This update received a positive response from the audience, and even many COD fan pages appreciated the change. @ModernWarzone, one of the biggest Call of Duty information providers, responded to the post, calling it the kind of response that fans love to see.
With all the attention, whether good or bad, it will be interesting to see whether this feud will lead to a rise in player numbers for the game in the launch week. Either way, the FPS scene just got a lot more entertaining.
