Since the release of the reveal trailer back in 2020, fans of Hogwarts Legacy have been speculating about what the game will hold for the players. Given that the title is set far back in the late 1800s, characters from the original saga are highly unlikely to be featured. One then wonders whether any familiar faces will greet the players in-game.

A handful of canonical personalities from the Harry Potter universe may appear in Hogwarts Legacy, including Phineas Nigellus Black and Angus Buchanan. If the game is set in 1890s, players may also get to go to school with Albus Dumbledore.

This article focuses on Peeves, a permanent inhabitant of Hogwarts who has reportedly been living on the premises since the castle's very inception, and whether he will be a part of the game for players to meet.

Will Peeves be a nightmare for players in Hogwarts Legacy?

The developers of Hogwarts Legacy have assured that players will be able to experience the life of a student at the famed school like never before. The promise of a fully-fleshed-out Hogwarts opens up the possibility of having the presence of the castle ghosts in the game, without which Hogwarts will not feel the same.

Unfortunately for the mischievous poltergeist, Peeves has never been featured in the Harry Potter films. But in the books, the poltergeist plays the recurring role of a prankster who is a constant pain to the people in the school, especially the caretakers.

He has been at Hogwarts Castle since its founding in c. 993, referred to as "came with the building." According to the Harry Potter wiki:

"[He] came into existence with the founding of an institution containing a large number of children. Whilst unconfirmed, it was guessed that Peeves is a tangible manifestation of the students' mischief."

The infamous 1876 incident, when the caretaker Rancorous Carpe attempted to trap Peeves in vain and ended up with the mischiefmaker with cutlasses and a blunderbass, was the last disastrous attempt to get rid of Peeves. This event can easily be added to the game given its time-period.

In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, the player gets to interact with Peeves numerous times over a number of quests. The poltergeist can similarly be added to Hogwarts Legacy. Not only can he be an NPC involved in different quests and side-quests in the game, but he will also add a sense of adventure and fun to the exploration of the castle.

Avalanche is yet to release any new information regarding Hogwarts Legacy since the 2020 trailer, which has become the most-watched one for PlayStation YouTube. From what is known, players will be privy to the life of a fifth-year student at the school as they learn about spells, potions and magical beasts.

The game is also going to be an open-world RPG. There will be more locations to explore than Hogwarts, including Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest. Although a trailer was expected at the PlayStation March State of Play, fans were left disappointed.

One can only hope that the developers will soon reveal new information about the title, especially its release date.
