F1 penalty points: 5 biggest delinquents after the 2025 Miami GP

The F1 penalty points system was introduced in 2014. This was a direct result of an increase in on-track incidents from drivers.

When it reaches a point where even the drivers started complaining, a new system was the need of the hour. This was introduced by the FIA where every driver transgression leads to penalty points.

These transgressions could be anything from causing a collision, dangerous driving, speeding in the pitlane etc. For every transgressions the penalty points are given on the basis of the severity of the act. These points stay with the driver for a 12-month period.

If a driver ends up accruing 12 F1 penalty points then he's banned for a race. Kevin Magnussen became the first ever driver last season to get banned due to this system.
