The F1 penalty points system has been put in place to keep the driving standards under a threshold. In different motorsports across the world, there is no definitive and standardised method that is used to keep delinquency under check.
For a long time, even F1 didn't have a standard process. The early 2010s triggered a change, and it was due to the influx of a generation of drivers that were quite crash-prone.
In 2012, this had even led to Romain Grosjean getting banned from a race. It was around this time that the FIA put together a more concrete structure through which a driver who commits on-track transgressions would be handed penalty points.
As part of the system, Kevin Magnussen became the first driver to be banned for a race. With that being said, as we move on from the Miami GP, how does the field stack up in terms of penalty points? Let's take a look.
