F1 Singapore GP: Driver ratings

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
F1 Grand Prix of Singapore

It was a stellar weekend for Lewis Hamilton who won the Singapore Grand Prix under the lights at the Marina Bay street circuit.

It now puts Hamilton 40 points ahead of his rival Sebastian Vettel after the German finished the race in third place ending a frustrating Grand Prix weekend for Scuderia Ferrari.

The 2018 championship now has only six races remaining and Hamilton is hot on favorite to beat Vettel to the 5th world championship.

The race itself was rather a dull one for the fans to watch as there was not much action taking place on the Marina Bay circuit but what the Formula 1 community did witness was a dominant display from the Briton. Arguably one of the best performances from the world champion.

But how did the other 19 drivers get on this weekend?

Here are Sportskeeda's driver ratings for the Singapore Grand Prix.

#10 Williams

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
Sirotkin had a moment or two with Perez

Sergey Sirotkin - 19th

Despite the limitations of the Williams cars at the moment, Sergey Sirotkin challenged himself out there on Sunday.

The Russian is under pressure with his seat at the team not yet secured for the 2019 championship.

Despite Sirotkin finishing in last place, he could have finished higher if it wasn't for the incident caused by Sergio Perez.

The Mexican turned into Sirotkin's racing line just moments after overtaking the Williams causing a collision and damage to both cars.

It was an unfortunate moment for Sirotkin.

Driver's rating: 4/10

Lance Stroll - 14th

Lance Stroll's future is, for now, an uncertainty but rumors keep spreading that the Canadian will join his Dad, Lawrence Stroll, at Force India in the near future.

Going back to Sunday's race, Stroll had a quiet race compared to his teammate.

Stroll will be pleased with his performance by going up five places from where he started in 19th position from Saturday's qualifying.

Driver's rating: 4/10

#9 Sauber

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore - Qualifying
Another impressive drive from Leclerc

Charles Leclerc - 9th

It was another fine weekend for the future Ferrari driver of Charles Leclerc.

The man from Monaco showed us yet again why he has a bright future in the world of F1.

Leclerc started the race in 13th place and admitted before lights out on Sunday that he had never experienced conditions like the ones at Singapore.

Two more points for Leclerc and Sauber.

Driver's rating: 7/10

Marcus Ericsson - 11th

Another driver who is unsure on where his future lies in F1 but with the announcement of Leclerc and Kimi Raikkonen swapping seats next year, Ericsson may just be staying at Sauber for another year.

Ericsson began 14th on the grid but just missed out on the points by finishing 11th in a bid to add to Leclerc's two points.

Driver's rating: 4/10

#8 Toro Rosso

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
No points for Toro Rosso in Singapore

Pierre Gasly - 13th

Not the result Pierre Gasly wanted when coming into last weekend's race in Singapore.

The Frenchman's qualifying pace was not up to scratch by being 12th fastest on Saturday before finishing a place below the following day.

There was an exciting moment when Gasly and Leclerc raced each other halfway through the race.

Driver's rating: 4/10

Brendon Hartley - 17th

Brendon Hartley does not make it look at all easy out on the track and last weekend proved yet again why the New Zealander's F1 days are numbered.

His boss Helmut Marko said in a recent interview that there are at least 10 names in contention for his seat next year.

Hartley finishing a place lower than his qualifying position is not going to cut it.

Driver's rating: 2/10

#7 Force India

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
Ocon's race in a picture

Sergio Perez - 16th

Sergio Perez was one of the most talked about drivers after Sunday's race and not for the right reasons.

The Mexican had a nightmare under the lights and it all started in the opening lap when he was responsible for his teammate Esteban Ocon's retirement.

Perez was able to continue but would then later collide into Sergey Sirotkin moments after overtaking the Russian.

A day to forget for Checo.

Driver's rating: 2/10

Esteban Ocon - DNF

Esteban Ocon was the only retirement of the day and the last thing the Frenchman wanted ahead of an unsure future in the sport.

No one knows at this moment in time where Ocon will be racing in 2019 due to Lance Stroll being expected to take his seat in a matter of weeks.

It is tough times for Ocon.

Driver's rating: 1/10

#6 McLaren

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
Alonso under the lights

Fernando Alonso - 7th

Fernando Alonso showed who's boss outside of the top six by finishing in 7th place on Sunday.

The Spaniard is certainly making the most out of the final races of his F1 career and is also reminding us what a talent we will surely be missing come March next year.

Alonso started the race in 9th before recording one of the fastest laps, it was then swept under the carpet by his favorite person Kevin Magnussen.

But that won't shadow Alonso's overall performance.

Driver's rating: 7/10

Stoffel Vandoorne - 12th

Stoffel Vandoorne had a typical qualifying on Saturday by being one of the slowest out on the track.

But Sunday's race could have been worst for the Belgian as Vandoorne finished in 12th after qualifying 17th.

Vandoorne's remaining races at McLaren will be to try and convince other team bosses and that could be a real challenge for him.

Driver's rating: 5/10

#5 Haas

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore - Previews
A weekend to forget for Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen - 18th

Kevin Magnussen had a pretty poor weekend in Singapore with it all starting in qualifying by beginning the race fifth from last.

The Dane made no real difference on race day by finishing three places below his qualifying position.

One thing he can take from last weekend is recording the fastest lap with a 1:41.905 - taking away Alonso's glory.

Driver's rating: 2/10

Romain Grosjean - 15th

It was also an uneventful weekend for Magnussen's teammate Romain Grosjean as he too could not reach the top 10.

It is without a doubt that Haas as a team struggled to perform under the lights in Singapore.

Driver's rating: 3/10

#4 Renault

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore - Qualifying
F1 Grand Prix of Singapore - Qualifying

Carlos Sainz - 8th

Renault's aim has stayed the same for most races this year and that is to score as many points as possible to finish fourth in the constructors' championship.

Carlos Sainz sure helped that aim look even more possible by finishing behind his fellow Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, and the top six drivers of Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull.

Driver's rating: 6/10

Nico Hulkenberg - 10th

Nico Hulkenberg with a normal weekend's work by being the team player at Renault and grabbing a point for his team's fourth-place status in the constructors'

It's Hulkenberg's first top ten finish since the German Grand Prix back in July.

Driver's rating: 5/10

#3 Red Bull

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
Verstappen out racing his teammate once again

Max Verstappen - 2nd

When you compare Max Verstappen's race pace to Hamilton's, it was always going to be a one-horse race.

Verstappen finished over eight seconds behind the Briton but will be delighted to seal another podium finish after the poor start to the season he experienced.

And the Dutchman was elected F1's driver of the day so smiles all round for the young Verstappen.

Driver's rating: 8/10

Daniel Ricciardo - 6th

A lot more like it for Daniel Ricciardo when you compare this result to his two previous races.

The races in Italy and Belgian were double retirements for the Australian so a finish in Singapore was a high priority.

Driver's rating: 6/10

#2 Ferrari

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
What now for Vettel?

Sebastian Vettel - 3rd

The question in the picture's caption is a question he may have been asked many times before especially during his time at Scuderia Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel's chances of winning a fifth world championship this year look very slim now as Hamilton yet again finished above him.

It seems Vettel has a more powerful car than Hamilton's Mercedes but the German isn't showing it any justice.

Driver's rating: 5/10

Kimi Raikkonen - 5th

Kimi Raikkonen's first race since his announcement of joining Sauber next season didn't prove to be much of a distraction as it was another strong finish from the Fin.

The 2007 world champion now has only six races left in his second spell at the Italian team.

Driver's rating: 5/10

#1 Mercedes

F1 Grand Prix of Singapore
Hamilton is showing why he is number one

Lewis Hamilton - 1st

Another race win for Lewis Hamilton but this win was like no other in the Briton's 11-year F1 career.

Saturday's qualifying was arguably the best hot lap we have ever seen around the Marina Bay circuit since it was introduced in 2008.

All of this before Hamilton showed no real struggle in a hot night under the lights on race day.

Now 40 points ahead of Vettel with six races to go - it will take a lot now for Hamilton to screw this up.

Driver's rating: 8/10

Valtteri Bottas - 4th

There have been mixed reviews on Valtteri Bottas' performance from Sunday's race despite only missing out on a podium finish with his teammate.

Many believe Bottas should have performed better in Sunday's showdown.

With Esteban Ocon becoming an available driver - it looks as though Mercedes' team principal Toto Wolff is desperate for Ocon to get a seat for 2019.

Could the future of Bottas at Mercedes be denied by a young Ocon? probably, but the Finn was confirmed by a Mercedes for 2019 back in July.

Driver's rating: 6/10
