Lotus team principal confident of a comeback

F1 Grand Prix of Malaysia

Lotus team principal, Eric Boullier is optimistic about his team’s chances this season despite having unsatisfactory results in Monaco and Canada GP.

Lotus had a terrific start to the season with Raikkonen winning the Australian GP and securing 2nd place finishes in China, Bahrain and Spain. Bahrain GP was the best of the season as both the Lotus drivers finished on the podium.

But, the Ernston based team gathered just 3 points in last two races, with Raikkonen finishing at 9th and 10th positions respectively, and his teammate Grosjean failing to make it to the top ten. With Lotus slipping to fourth in the Constructor’s Championship, Boullier hopes that recent results are just a mid-season blip and feels that the team is still in contention for the championship.

“We have lost positions, so we have to work hard to keep the pace because the car is competitive, the team is competitive and there is no reason we cannot be back and fighting for podiums,” Boullier is quoted by Sky Sports.

“We didn’t have five podiums at the start of the season just by chance. It is because the package is competitive – we may struggle sometimes on some tracks, but we know this know and we have to work on this now to avoid this happening again this season on low-energy tracks. We have to make a step forward – we have some developments coming for Silverstone, so that should help to close the gap to the leaders.”

The Iceman lost his second position in the driver’s championship to Ferrari‘s Alonso due to the recent events and is 44 points behind the leader Sebastian Vettel. Meanwhile, Grosjean has 26 points and is placed 9th, 106 adrift of the three-time World Champion.
