Charles Leclerc faced a massive crash in the FP1 session of the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix on Friday, June 13. A few minutes into the session, Leclerc locked up at turn 4 and lost traction to hit the wall, triggering a red flag at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.

Amid much speculation around his future at Ferrari, Leclerc stepped into his SF-25 to take part in the first free practice session of the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix. He drove out of the garage with soft tires and had a good few laps.

However, less than 15 minutes into the session, Leclerc had a big lockup at turn 4. He lost balance and slipped into the grass, shunting the left rear tire into the wall. After contact, the Monegasque driver's car took a spin, and marshals waved a red flag to stop the session.

Luckily, Charles Leclerc walked out of the car unhurt. On the team radio, the Ferrari driver admitted his fault in the crash, citing an error in judgment.

"I'm in the wall. Yeah, my bad. I should've gone straight. I thought I would just make it, but I clipped the wall," Leclerc said on team radio.

After debris from the Monegasque driver's car was swept off the track, the FP1 session resumed. However, Leclerc's car has sustained severe damage. Hence, he didn't resume the session and was later seemingly involved in an intense discussion with his engineering crew.

The FP2 will begin two and a half hours after the first session. If Ferrari engineers can fix the repair work by then, Leclerc can still practice on the Montreal track. However, an official word on the car damage is yet to be issued by Ferrari.

Amid a turbulent 2025 season, where Charles Leclerc sits fifth in the championship standings without a race win, speculations around his future with Ferrari were raised before the Canadian GP. According to Italian media, the Monagasque was reportedly losing confidence in Ferrari and exploring other options for 2026.

However, Leclerc has squashed the rumors of his imminent exit from Ferrari, saying he loves the team. Talking to media, including Motorsport, he said:

"I'm very surprised. I mean, I have no idea from where it's coming from. So, I'd rather just ignore it. But I've never said anything of this in the last few races. If anything, I keep saying how much I love the team and how much I want to bring back Ferrari to the top. I was just surprised."

Leclerc added that he, his teammate Lewis Hamilton and team principal Fred Vasseur have a vision to get back to winning ways. Their goals are aligned, and despite underwhelming results, the team is sticking together in 2025.

Charles Leclerc signed an extension contract with Ferrari in 2024, though the length of the deal is still undisclosed.
