Reportedly, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur's position is under threat as the Italian team might already be looking for his replacement. The Frenchman joined the Maranello-based outfit at the beginning of the 2023 season and has been one of the key figures behind their revival.

In his first two years with the team, the 57-year-old changed the working culture of Ferrari and played a significant role in making changes in key departments like strategy and car development. While the team finished P3 and P2 in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, respectively, they constantly fought for race wins and podiums during that time.

There were massive expectations on the Italian team at the beginning of the 2025 season, as they had pushed McLaren all the way last year and were predicted to be one of the contenders for the Constructors' championship this year. However, Ferrari has fallen short of pre-season expectations as they have been behind the Woking-based outfit in terms of performance.

Despite being P2 in the standings, Ferrari has only scored three podiums in the nine races and won one Sprint race in China, courtesy of Lewis Hamilton. As per Corriere, the Italian team hierarchy is looking for a replacement for Fred Vasseur in his role as team principal, as he has failed to deliver on the title thus far, and the current season has been a disappointment.

It is being reported that Antonello Coletta, head of the endurance project, is touted to be in contention for the job. Although neither Vasseur nor Ferrari has confirmed any such reports, with the former's contract expiring at the end of the 2025 season.

Ferrari team principal comments on the Italian team's 2025 season

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur stated that he would prefer to be second in the Constructors' championship and hailed the team's progress in the last couple of races.

Speaking with F1.com, the Frenchman reflected on the 2025 season and said:

“I prefer to be second than fourth or fifth. Honestly, if you have a look, we were 50 or 60 points behind Mercedes and Red Bull after China, when we were disqualified, and now we are in front of them.

“I think that over the last four or five events, we did a decent job. But we also have to keep in mind that we are [here] because we want to win races, but we don't want to be P2. It means that we have to be focused on McLaren. I'm not speaking about the championship, but I'm speaking about pace."

The Prancing Horses sits in P2, has a gap of six points from Mercedes and 21 points to Red Bull in P3 and P4, respectively.
