F1 fans were left reeling after Williams driver Carlos Sainz urged fans to be open-minded about Hollywood at the world premiere of the "F1" movie in Times Square on June 16. The Hollywood production stars Brad Pitt in the lead role and has been filmed over two years at real locations alongside the main race weekends in the sport to give an authentic feel.
The Apple-produced venture also stars several other notable names like Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Damson Idris in supporting roles. It is directed by "Top Gun: Maverick" fame Joseph Krasinski and produced by the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer, with Ferrari driver and seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton serving as an Executive Producer.
During the World Premier of the 'F1' movie in Times Square, New York, Carlos Sainz spoke about the movie on the red carpet and reflected:
"There's something for everyone, for sure. I'll just say for the pure F1 fan, be open-minded to Hollywood F1 films, but then for all the new fans, that's our true sport that's what a sport is all about, teamwork about sacrifices that we need to make and I think for the new fans enjoy it because it's a good entrance to our sport,"
However, F1 fans were not convinced by Sainz's plea and took to the social media platform X to give their reactions, with one fan saying:
"For the F1 fans, be open-minded to Hollywood" he really hated this movie,"
"My fav actor in the F1 movie is Carlos Sainz btw,"
"Good to know I can skip the American c**p," wrote a fan.
Here are some more reactions:
"Thanks to him, I will not watch this movie then...said a fan.
"Took everything in him to not fully s**t on it haha," claimed another.
"Thanks for being real with us Carlos," wrote another.
Carlos Sainz and the other F1 drivers also feature in some of the scenes in the "F1" movie alongside the cast.
Carlos Sainz gives his honest reaction after watching the "F1" movie
Williams F1 driver Carlos Sainz stated that he enjoyed the Hollywood movie "F1" and believed that the Brad Pitt starrer would attract new fans to the sport.
Speaking with RacingNews365 in Monaco, the 30-year-old gave his thoughts and said:
"I truly enjoyed it, I think for us F1 experts, we're going to see things that we sometimes see with Netflix that you can tell are a bit Hollywood-esque. I truly believe that for a new fan, it will attract a lot of new audiences, and it will do very well with people who don't know anything about Formula 1."
The "F1" movie will release globally on June 25 and in the USA on June 27 and is touted to be one of the most anticipated films of the summer of 2025.
