McLaren F1 is set to run a special Ayrton Senna tribute livery in the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix. Senna was McLaren's most successful driver, having won three F1 Drivers' Championships in 1988, 1990, and 1991.

It has been over 30 years since the motorsport world lost one of its greatest drivers in Ayrton Senna. The Brazilian racing icon, often celebrated for his charismatic persona and extraordinary talent behind the wheel, lost his life in a fatal accident at the Imola Circuit in 1994 at the age of 34.

In a bid to pay homage to the racing legend, current F1 drivers and Sebastian Vettel recently organized a tribute run before the 2024 F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy. Now, McLaren F1 has unveiled its special Senna livery that will run in the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix.

McLaren's special livery for the Monaco GP is a vibrant design featuring the yellow, green, and blue colors synonymous with Senna’s iconic helmet. This striking one-off livery aims to celebrate and honor Senna’s legacy.

Alongside the F1 cars, McLaren Automotive has also unveiled a unique version of the McLaren Senna road car, showcasing a hand-painted livery with dot matrix portraits of Senna, crafted by McLaren Special Operations. Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will wear special bespoke overalls as a tribute to the legend.

Ayrton Senna's legacy is particularly tied to the streets of Monaco. He triumphed six times at the track, including a remarkable five consecutive victories from 1989 to 1993.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown reflects on Ayrton Senna's legacy and the special livery

McLaren CEO Zak Brown spoke about the significance of this tribute, highlighting Senna's lasting influence on the team and the sport. He said in an official press release:

"The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery. Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver."

He continued:

"His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.
"With it being the 30th anniversary of his passing, the team are choosing to recognise and celebrate his life at one of his favourite and most successful places to race, Monaco. We look forward to racing in this vibrant and beautiful livery this weekend."

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix is set to take place between May 24th - 26th at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo
