'Please leave our family alone' - Corinna Schumacher pleads to the media

Corinna Schumacher wants the media to give her family some space

Corinna Schumacher has requested the media to leave her family alone as her husband Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, continues to battle for his life after suffering a serious head injury while skiing off-piste in the French Alps.

Opening up for the first time since the grievous incident took place on December 29, Corinna said: “It’s very important to me that you ease the burden on the doctors and the hospital so that they can do their work in peace. Please also leave our family alone.”

The German F1 driver, who retired from Formula One in 2012 after his comeback to racing did not meet the high standards he had set during his 10-year stint with Ferrari, lies in a critical but stable state after being operated to remove haematoma at a hospital in Grenoble.

According to IndiaToday, sources from Sport24 suggest that his family is hopeful of him pulling through. Schumacher, who turned 45 on 3 January 2014, is under medically induced coma and is being continuous monitored by the doctors.

The German, who first retired in 2006, managed just a solitary podium finish in his comeback with Mercedes which lasted three years from 2010-2012.
