Rosberg wins dramatic British GP

Nico Rosberg won the 8th round of the season in some fashion! This was one of the most dramatic races in the recent past, with as many as 4 rear left tyre failures that brought up the Safety Car and changed the whole race!

Hamilton and Vettel had amazing starts whereas Webber did not. The Australian dropped back to 15th after the first lap but then he drove amazingly to claim 2nd place. Webber didn’t put a foot wrong except for the start and earned a well deserved podium position.

8 laps into the race, the drama began. Hamilton suffered a left rear tyre failure, which dropped him from 1st to the back of the grid. Two laps later, Massa suffered a similar incident and then a couple of laps later, Vergne was the victim of a tyre failure. This was disastrous in terms of safety. Many of the teams advised their drivers to stay off the kerbs as they suspected something was wrong with the kerbs at turn 4 and 5.

The safety car brought the pack closer together which gave us a lot of overtaking and wheel to wheel action all around the circuit!

10 laps before the end, Sebastian Vettel suffered a gearbox failure and lost drive in his car, which caused him to stop on the start/finish straight! It is the first time since the European Grand Prix last year that he has ended up retiring due to a mechanical failure! This brought out the safety car back out and closed up the pack again!

The last 6 laps of the race were one of the best in terms of the racing we got to see. Webber, Alonso and Hamilton were on fire. They passed everybody who were in front of them! They finished in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. This meant Raikkonen and Sutil, who were looking good for a podium, dropped back to 5th and 7th respectively.

Alonso made up 5 places in those last 6 laps and was on fire. This was a great result for him and the team after a disappointing qualifying. His team mate Massa finished in 6th after starting in 11th.

The McLaren cars disappointed once again after failing to score points. Williams, who were celebrating their 600th GP, just missed the points, their drivers finished in 11th and 12th.

The Force India team will be happy after a double points scoring race. Their drivers finished in 7th and 9th.

Ricciardo impressed after finishing in 8th! Hulkenburg finished in 10th place scoring a single point!

Pirelli will have to dig deep and find answers to what caused so many failures. This is not good for drivers who are on the limit at all times.

This will be the perfect birthday present for Rosberg. Vettel, who celebrates his birthday on the 3rd of July, will be looking for redemption in less than 7 days time for the German Grand Prix!
