Asian Games 2018 Fencing

Fencing is a combat sport which involves a group of three. There are three disciplines in the game of fencing, which are the foil, the the epee and the sabre. Earlier, there was a fourth discipline as well, the singlestick. But later it was discontinued.



Fencing at Asian Games

Fencing events were introduced at the Asian Games during the 1974 Asiad in Tehran. Since then, it is played in every tournament except in the year 1982.


China has been the most successful nation in Fencing at the Asian Games with a total of 113 medals which include 44 gold, 36 silver and 33 bronze medals. China is followed by South Korea and Japan at second and third position with 105 and 58 medals respectively.


Fencing at 2018 Asian Games

The fencing events at 2018 Asian Games will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Indonesia from 19 August to 24 August 2018.


A total of 12 events will take place this year which include six events each in the men's and women's category. In these six events, three will be individual events in the three different disciplines, that are the foil, the epee and the sabre. These three disciplines will have the team events as well and this will be the case in both the men's and the women's categories.


Defending champions and favourites

South Korea is the defending champions in most of the categories from the last time. They won a total of 16 medals in which there were eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals. They were followed by China in medals tally at fencing with 12 medals.


This year also South Korea and China will start as favorites in most of the categories. This is not just because of the last time but these two countries are also the most successful ones in the history of fencing at Asian Games.
