The start of the new Fantasy Premier League season is upon us and with this article, we talk about FPL darlings, Liverpool. A very settled team under Klopp, Liverpool are again the prime candidates to challenge Pep Guardiola's Man City this year.

Out of 7 players that crossed the 200 point barrier in the game, 4 were from Liverpool. The list of the top scoring Liverpool assets along with their price is as follows:

  1. Mo Salah - 259 Points (£12.5M)
  2. Sadio Mane - 231 Points (£11.5M)
  3. Andrew Robertson - 213 Points (£7.0M)
  4. Virgil Van Djik - 208 Points (£6.5M)

My top pick from Liverpool this year though, is not in the list above. Here is my list of 3 Liverpool players you should have in your FPL Team:

#1 Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0M)

Alexander-Arnold was the defender with the most assists in the league last season
Alexander-Arnold was the defender with the most assists in the league last season

While this 20-year-old right-back from Liverpool did not cross the 200 point barrier, it was mainly due to a lack of minutes (missing 9 league games). With 13 assists last season, he broke the record for most assists by a defender in a premier league year. With 6.4 points per game, Trent would have surpassed his compatriot on the other side had he played all games. Trent is not just reliant on attacking returns for his points. Liverpool got a whopping 21 clean sheets last season. The only slight problem with Trent is the threat of some rotation from Joe Gomez. That said, with clean sheets, attacking threat as well as set piece threat (he is on corners as well as some free-kicks), Trent Alexander-Arnold is a must have for me, especially at a price of £7.0M.

#2 Mo Salah (£12.5M)

Even though the Egyptian ace could not repeat his 32-goal season from 2017-2018, he still topped the FPL charts for points, finishing 25 points ahead of second-placed Raheem Sterling.

Despite falling 10 goals short of his total in the previous year, Salah still shared the Golden Boot last year with Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and had the most goals + assists combined in the league (34).

What Salah also gives you is a solid, reliable captaincy option. Salah gave atleast one attacking return in 60% of the games he played and provided double digit hauls on 8 occassions. With fixtures on his side at the start of the season, he is a top pick for me and should be in your FPL team.

#3 Andrew Robertson (£7.0M)

The third Liverpool pick was a tough one with Virgil Van Djik, Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson all making a strong case. But with Sadio Mane being busy in pre-season playing AFCON for his country and looking unlikely to feature in Gameweek 1, I went with Andrew Robertson.

Robertson topped the charts for FPL defenders last season and only 4 premium midfielders scored more FPL points than him. From those four, Eden Hazard has moved to the La Liga and the other three cost more than 11 million. Robertson is a solid pick with little or no rotation threat. He is a bonus point darling (had more bonus points than any other defender) and had 12 assists last season, just one behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

With him and Alexander-Arnold continuing their bet for most assists this season, we can expect more of the same from both this season. Fair to say, with Robertson in your team, you will have potential to score FPL points in attack as well as defence.
