Manchester United predictably succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against PSG at Old Trafford in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. Manchester United sure has a decent squad, but that day some of their star players were not at their highest level. It also seemed that the deputising youngsters failed to handle the pressure of the vital match as players like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial missed a few clinical chances.
Man United made no signings in the past winter transfer market. There are a few places where Manchester United need to add new talents to set a proper eleven. Without wasting any time, let us look at three players Manchester United should sign in the next summer.
#3 Douglas Costa
Douglas Costa is a 28-year old Brazilian right winger who joined for Juventus from Bayern Munich on 2nd July 2018. He has made 17 Serie A appearances this season as he has scored one goal so far.
Douglas Costa is well known for his blistering pace and ball passing quality. Manchester United have tall players like Lukaku, Pogba and even Martial who could take the full advantage of those brilliant deliveries.
United have one right winger right now in their squad in Juan Mata. We are yet to see Mata's conventional performance under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So, if United is looking to replace the 33-years old Spaniard, is is hard to find a better option than Douglas Costa.
#2 Ivan Rakitic
The heart of Barcelona's midfield, Ivan Rakitic is likely to leave the Catalan club in the next summer. There are a number of clubs has been linked with the Croatian international.
Rakitic joined Barcelona in 2014 from Sevilla FC. The midfielder has played 23 matches in La Liga this season, scoring two goals in the process.
Barcelona have already signed Dutch prospect Frenkie De Jong who will join the Catalan giants in the next summer. So, it is expected that each player will have to prove himself to snatch a place in the starting line-up. It could be a possible reason why Rakitic could leave Barcelona.
For Manchester United, it could be a great signing as they need a proper attacking midfielder-cum-playmaker with the ability to break down stubborn defences.
#1 Toby Alderweireld
Manchester United changed their manager, but the chaos in their defence is yet to be solved as the defensive partnership playing under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not looking good at all. They need to sign a centre-back as soon as possible. In the Premier League, United's leaky defence has conceded 35 goals this season.
Manchester United should go for Belgian central defender, Toby Alderweireld as the 29-years old superstar would be able to leave his current side for just £35 million. This season, Toby has 24 appearances under his name in the Premier League. Alderweireld has signed a contract extension deal with Tottenham Hotspur where it is stated that he could leave the club in this summer. Manchester United could go for this deal as it could be a bargain for the English club and help them return to their former glory.
