Luka Modric was the star of 2018. The Croatian midfielder led his home country to the first FIFA World Cup final in their history and won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in the same summer.

The 33-year-old ended the decade-long Messi-Ronaldo duopoly over individual awards and went on to win the treble: the FIFA Men's Player of the Year award, the Best FIFA Men's Player gong, and the coveted Ballon d'Or.

This season, however, Modric has put forward some sub-standard displays but the Croatian could hardly be blamed for the woes of the club at the moment.

In recent weeks, reports have been rife of Inter Milan's interest in bringing the midfielder to the Serie A once again. The Italian club had attempted to sign Modric last summer as well, but the move never materialised owing to Florentino Perez's disapproval.

Considering his age and his form, however, we could see the club let go of the midfielder this summer with Real appearing to be preparing for it as they are currently looking for a replacement in Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen.
