Manchester United need few reinforcements to continue their impressive run under the new caretaker manager

The 2018/19 season is just crossing the halfway mark and if its anything to go by, Manchester United need some reinforcements to carry on their rise under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. So far, the summer signings Fred and Dalot haven't really managed to push for a place in the starting XI. Manchester United currently sit outside the top four in the Premier League table and they should look to strengthen in January in a bid to get a Champions League spot.

The two positions that are in desperate need of improvement are the right wing and center back positions. Right now, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones are the preferred partnership as Chris Smalling is injured and Eric Bailly has fallen out of favor. As for the right wing, Jesse Lingard has done a good job so far but he is more suited to a central role as he always seems to drift in from the right during matches leaving no outlet of attack from the right. While Alexis Sanchez can be tried on the right, Ole seems to be quite content in playing Alexis from the left.

Here are some players that the Red Devils should look to sign in January Transfer window.

#1 Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly, who is currently playing for Napoli, could prove to be an instant fix at the center back position. Koulibaly could transform United's back line completely and may even improve the current center backs at Manchester United. The Senegalese defender is a ball-playing center back who is commanding in the air and has been a rock so far for Napoli.

In terms of stats, he averages more passes per game than any other player at Manchester United this season. In Seria A, this season, Koulibaly has 89% pass accuracy with 83% tackles won. He has made 25 interceptions with eight key passes and two assists.

#2 Leon Bailey

Leon Bailey is currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen. Leon is young, pacy, very direct and has a powerful shot in him. The Jamaican is a realistic contender for the right wing spot at the Theater Of Dreams. Bailey has fallen out with Rudi Voller, Leverkusen's managing director, and has played nowhere near enough minutes that he deserves to play.

In terms of stats, Bailey scored nine goals and made further made six assists in the Bundesliga last season. Leon, last season, averaged more crosses (6.5) than any other Manchester United winger. Only Sanchez attempted more dribbles (5.3) and Rashford attempted more shots (2.9) than Leon Bailey.

#3 Matthijs De Ligt

De Ligt, currently, is one of the best defenders in Europe playing for Ajax. He has been a subject to a lot of attention from Europe's "Big Boys". De Ligt is young and has been brilliant at the back for Ajax this season impressing everyone with his astute display in the Champions League and in UEFA Nationals League (playing for the Netherlands). He is brilliant on the ball and posses the technical ability of a potential midfielder. He has improved defensively over the years and could be a long term solution for United at the back.

In terms of stats, De Ligt has won 85% of his tackles in the Champions League this season. In Eredivisie so far, he has a passing accuracy of 92%. Defensively, he has made 21 interceptions and has won 74% of his tackles. He has made six key passes, two goals, and one assist this season. Also, he is the first defender to win a Golden Boy award in 16 editions.
