Jan Oblak: 4 Possible Destinations if he Leaves Atletico Madrid

Olympique de Marseille v Club Atletico de Madrid - UEFA Europa League Final
Jan Oblak's future hangs in the air

With everyone looking forward to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, one cannot forget that the summer transfer window is now officially open - at least for the Premier League clubs.

Jan Oblak helped his side win the Europa League earlier this week against Marseille in Lyon and with speculation surrounding his future, his comments after the match just sparked it further.

The keeper said, "People have opinions and say things. I have a contract here and I don't know what's going to happen in the future. It doesn't depend on me.

"At the moment, I'm happy here and I'm not thinking about anything other than Sunday and that we need a point to finish second."

With his future still up in the air, we take a look at the possible destinations for the Slovenian international who has a contract with the Spanish club until 2021. Bear in mind he has a release clause of €100m.

#1 Liverpool

Liverpool v Brighton and Hove Albion - Premier League - Anfield
Is Karius Liverpool's future long-term no 1?

Simon Mignolet has lost his place in Liverpool's starting lineup and he would be looking to leave the Anfield this summer in search of game time. While Loris Karius might have done a decent job, he still needs to prove that he is Liverpool's future number one keeper.

The Champions League Final on 26th May should make things more clear. But as things stand, the Reds need a quality keeper that can help them in their pursuit of the Premeir League title next season.

And the 24-year-old has time and again proven that he is the 'keeper you can rely upon. If Oblak does move to Liverpool, would Karius go back to being the no.2 choice?

#2 Chelsea

Chelsea Training and Press Conference
Courtois is yet to agree to a new deal with the Blues

Thibaut Courtois is still yet to sign a new contract with the Blues and his current deal expires at the end of next season.

The Belgian has time and again expressed his love for Madrid as his family lives there too. With Real Madrid looking for a new goalkeeper, Courtois could be on his way back to Spain this summer and the club would not want to run down his contract and let him leave for free.

Instead, they would look to cash in as much as possible when they have the chance. But before that, Chelsea needs to sort out their manager issues as it is still not clear who would be in-charge of the club come next season.

Conte has time and again said he is committed to the club and has another year remaining. But reports of Chelsea in the market for a new manager suggest otherwise.

But without Champions League, will Courtois stay? And will Oblak join them?

#3 Arsenal

Chelsea v Arsenal - Premier League
Arsenal fans are not happy with Cech's performances this season

Arsenal have a long summer to look forward to this year. With Arsene Wenger having left the club after nearly 22-years, the next manager would have huge shoes to fill in. Reports have been circulating that Mikel Arteta will be the new manager but there is nothing official or concrete as of yet.

Nonetheless, the Gunners are also believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper. Petr Cech's performances have not been up to the mark this season, probably given his age, and David Ospina has failed to convince the management that he is a no.1 choice.

With the club set for an overhaul this season, they could target Oblak to be their long-term goalkeeper - but only if they convince Atletico to sell rather than pay the release clause.

#4 Paris Saint-German

Paris Saint Germain - Training Session
They could both be on the move this summer

The Ligue 1 champions have probably shown the biggest interest in signing Oblak. With Alphonse Areola and Kevin Trapp likely to leave this summer, the French club desperately need a goalkeeper who they can rely on and the Atletico Madrid star meets the requirement.

However, recent reports have also come out that the Parisians have offered a two-year contract to Juventus superstar Gianluigi Buffon who will leave the Turin club at the end of this season.

Buffon does not plan to retire just yet but will make a decision on his future in the coming days. He also said that he had offers for roles on and off the pitch and is yet to decide.

Rather than going for Buffon, who would play for just one more season (at the most), the club should target Oblak as he is young and would be able to play for a long time.

Buffon has made it clear that he would still like to play at the highest level where he can challenge himself and compete for trophies and that surely doesn't mean he will be a backup goalkeeper.
