Both the Champions League and Europa League returned this week

This week in the Champions League saw the fifth round of matches being played. As teams begin to qualify for the knockout stages, others are still battling out in the final two matches.

Qualification to the next round or even the Europa League can mean great financial rewards for smaller teams and perhaps a chance of European success for others.

There were a large number of great goals this week, which made it hard to narrow it down to the top 5.

#5 Willian vs Qarabag

Qarabag FK v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League
Willian celebrates his goal

Chelsea were comfortable winners in Azerbaijan against Qarabag. Willian was on the scoresheet twice, but it was his second strike to make it 4-0 that caught the eye.

Cutting in from the left, shifting the ball onto his right foot, he found the corner with a powerful strike.

He was also involved in a penalty decision when it was adjudged that he was fouled in the penalty area.

Chelsea will now switch attention to a tough away fixture at Anfield against Liverpool on Saturday and will hope Willian can keep up his impressive form.

#4 Harry Kane vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur - UEFA Champions League
Kane levelled it for Dortmund

Harry Kane's equaliser was a turning point in the game. With little invitation, Kane was able to turn quickly and find the bottom corner of the net.

From a turnover in the Dortmund half, the England forward was fed the ball from the left and let it run across his body. After nearly losing the ball, he was able to regain his composure and unleash a strike into the goalkeeper's bottom right-hand corner.

Kane has been in red-hot form this season and has managed 14 goals in 16 games in all competitions.

The defeat also means that Dortmund continued their poor run of form domestically and in Europe. They have failed to qualify for the next round in Europe, only picking up points in two disappointing draws to Apoel Nicosia.

#3 Luka Modri? vs Apoel Nicosia

Even Ron was impressed!

The much superior side Real Madrid showed their dominance with a 6-0 win. However, it was not until this fine strike by Modri? that the floodgates opened.

In a team with such large names, the Croatian is able to show his class and also his importance to the team.

A poor defensive clearance meant that Modri? had space to nail his volley. There are some questions over the goalkeeper's role in the goal. Perhaps if the goal had not been half-saved it would have been the best goal of the week.

Jeez, stop it Antoine!

The Frenchman opened the scoring for Atletico Madrid against Roma. He scored in the 69th minute in what would go on to be a 2-0 for the Spanish side.

Following a through ball into the Roma penalty area, the ball was brilliantly kept in by Ángel Correa and crossed towards Griezmann. He stole the show with a stunning left-footed bicycle kick into the net, getting the timing of the shot right, which isn't easy when one is attempting something so spectacular.

They will need results to go their way in the next rounds of games to ensure qualification to the last 16.

#1 Lorenzo Insigne vs Shakhtar Donetsk

SSC Napoli v Shakhtar Donetsk - UEFA Champions League
Insigne scored a stunner against Shakhtar to keep Napoli's hopes alive

The pick of week's goals was a fine curling strike from the Napoli forward. He moved the ball from outside the left corner of the box into the centre, and perfectly place the ball into the goalkeeper's top-left hand corner

Insigne has had an indifferent last few weeks. He failed to start for Italy in their World Cup qualification play-off in which they failed to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1958.

Despite him being overlooked by the national team, both his domestic form and his club Napoli's form cannot be questioned.

They currently sit top of Serie A and remain in strong contention for the next round of the Champions League.

Insigne has formed a destructive attacking force with Dries Mertens and José Callejón, and this goal was the pick of the Champions League gameweek.
