The Blues currently lead the Premier League table with 30 points in 13 matches. They are in a close contest with Manchester City and Liverpool, who are second and third with 29 and 28 points respectively, for the league title.

Chelsea have performed as a unit with all of their players chipping in with useful contributions. But there are a few who have been a cut above the rest and this article will highlight those players.

Without further ado, let's take a look at the five best Chelsea players this season as per WhoScored ratings.

Note: Only players who have played six or more league matches have been included in the list.

Chelsea's young centre-back Trevoh Chalobah has been their fifth-best player this season as per WhoScored ratings. The level of his performances doesn't make it seem like the 22-year-old is still in his first season with the senior side.

Chalobah has made eight Premier League appearances for the Blues this season, even scoring two goals. He has also slotted in a back-three alongside Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger seamlessly. The youngster has averaged 2.1 successful tackles and one interception per match this season.

Chalobah recently signed a long-term contract with Chelsea that would further boost his confidence. The Blues would love to have him perform consistently as they fight on multiple fronts for trophies.

Marcos Alonso is currently the fourth-best Chelsea player as per WhoScored ratings. The Spaniard has had to make way for Ben Chilwell, who was quite impressive too, but an injury to the England international has seen Alonso return to the fold.

In seven Premier League matches this season, Alonso has scored and assisted one goal each. Playing as a left wing-back in Thomas Tuchel's system, the 30-year-old has benefitted from the license to venture forward at will.

Alonso has recorded two key passes per match on average, and has also taken 1.6 shots per game. He has been quite good on the defensive front too, making 1.9 interceptions and 1.7 tackles per game on average in the league. Alonso has also made 2.3 clearances on average this season.

#3 Thiago Silva (7.40)

Thiago Silva has been a rock at the back for Thomas Tuchel's men and is Chelsea's third-best player so far this season. The 37-year-old has played an integral part in the Blues' consistency this season and is also the third-best centre-back currently in Europe's top-five leagues.

Silva has ensured that Chelsea remain the best defensive side in the league so far. They have conceded just five goals in the Premier League, two fewer than Manchester City in second.

Opposition forwards have struggled to get past Silva, who has only been dribbled past 0.3 times this season on average. He has been great with his shot-blocking too, blocking 1.1 per match on average. The Brazilian's passing has been impressive too as he has completed 71.4 passes per match on average in the league.

Mateo Kovacic has been Chelsea's second best player this season as per WhoScored ratings. The midfielder started the season in brilliant fashion and became an integral part of Thomas Tuchel's system.

The Croatia international has played nine Premier League matches this season, starting eight of them. He has scored one goal but it is on the creative front where he has shone. Kovacic has already provided five league assists and has played 1.6 key passes per match this season, with 89% of his passes finding his teammates.

With 0.4 interceptions, 2.7 tackles and 0.9 possessions won per game, the Croatian has been great on the defensive front too. But he is currently struggling with a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the Blues' last five Premier League matches. Kovacic's return will further boost a side that is already performing brilliantly on all fronts.

#1 Ben Chilwell (7.65)

Ben Chilwell has been Chelsea's best player so far this season as per WhoScored ratings. While this may come as a surprise to some, Chilwell's contribution to the Blues' consistent performances in the Premier League and Europe cannot be understated.

The left-back has played six Premier League matches this season. He was initially benched in favor of Marcos Alonso, but soon after being drafted back into the XI, the former Leicester City star hit the ground running. Chilwell has scored three league goals and provided an assist too in addition to being defensively solid.

However, a knee injury could cut down on his appearances considerably. Chilwell is set to sit out the festive period and is only expected to return in the first week of January. Thomas Tuchel would love to have him back soon as Chelsea continue their push for the Premier League title and defend their Champions League crown.
