5 massive transfers that could still go through in January

It has been a slightly strange January transfer window up to this point. There has been a lot of talk, a lot of rumours, but not too many deals have actually been done.

The likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are yet to bring anyone in, despite all three clubs being in a position where the right player could make a real difference between now and the end of the season.

The one Premier League club who have really done some business are Chelsea. The Blues bought in Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season from Juventus, while Alvaro Morata has left to join Atletico Madrid.

They also offloaded Cesc Fabregas and Victor Moses, while also bringing in Christian Pulisic, who will spend the rest of the season with Borussia Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth have broken their transfer record to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool, while Manchester City starlet Brahim Diaz left the club to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

There is still time to get something done though, and there is certainly the possibility that more deals could go through.

Arsenal are looking for reinforcements and could be forced to move after recent injuries to Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Laurent Koscielny. It is a similar story at Tottenham, where injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli have left them short of options going forward, and they could be forced to dip their toes into the market.

With just a couple of days left in the window, here are five massive deals that could still go through.

#1 Callum Hudson-Odoi to Bayern Munich

This is the long-running story of this transfer window. Hudson-Odoi is the brightest prospect who we have seen come through Chelsea’s youth system in a number of years, and we are now starting to see the talent he possesses.

However, the 18-year-old has grown frustrated over the lack of opportunities he has been given in the Premier League, and he is still yet to start a league game.

But despite this, there is major interest from German giants Bayern Munich. They have now made four bids for Hudson-Odoi, all of which have been rejected, with the latest worth £35 million.

They don’t seem to be deterred though, and there could still be another bid put in before Thursday’s deadline. Chelsea have said he will be staying, but with the increased player power these days, that could mean very little.

#2 Nicolo Barella to Chelsea

It could be a matter of one in, one out at Stamford Bridge over the next couple of days.

Earlier this month, Chelsea sold centre midfielder Cesc Fabregas to Monaco, leaving them a man short in the centre of the park. You could argue that the likes of Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, or even the impressive Ethan Ampadu, could take his place in the side, but they may not fit the bill of the sort of player Maurizio Sarri likes to play at the base of his midfield.

One man who does though is Cagliari’s, Nicolo Barella. The 21-year-old is very similar to Jorginho, and could be a much needed back up option were he to move to England.

He would cost a lot of money, with Cagliari likely to demand at least £50 million. There has also been interest from Manchester United, so Chelsea could have competition for his signature.

#3 Ivan Perisic to Arsenal

It has been a frustrating transfer window for Arsenal. They have seen the squad ravaged by injuries, particularly in defensive areas.

Unai Emery has not had the ability to bring in new players, as the board haven’t made any money available for transfers, and he has been restricted to just loan targets.

They have though made a move for Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, and he could be an excellent addition. The Croatian winger was superb during the World Cup as he helped take his side all the way to the final, where he scored in their defeat to France.

He would offer this Arsenal side some much-needed balance. The Gunners have at times lacked quality in wide areas, but Perisic would help solve that problem, and he would help improve an already impressive Arsenal front line.

#4 Denis Suarez to Arsenal

Perisic may not be the only man to come through the door at the Emirates this month. The Gunners are also looking to bring in a midfielder, and it looks like Denis Suarez could be their man.

Aaron Ramsey looks set to leave the club at the end of the season, with Juventus the most likely destination, and they have at times looked short in midfield, with youngster Matteo Guendouzi occasionally struggling in the centre of the park.

Suarez has never really made an impact since returning to Barcelona in 2016 after a spell with Villareal. He has played just 46 times in LaLiga since then, and he has never really held down a place in the Barca line up.

This is a deal that could be just a loan for now, but one with the option to make permanent at the end of the season.

#5 Youri Tielemans to Leicester City

It has been an interesting past month for Leicester City. Despite picking up a couple of quite incredible wins against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, they have also suffered some avoidable defeats, against Southampton, Everton, and most notably against Newport County in the FA Cup.

The results have left manager Claude Puel under pressure, but he is still looking to make additions to his squad.

One of those possible additions is Monaco’s Youri Tielemans, who looks set to move to the King Power Stadium on loan, with Foxes midfielder Adrien Silva moving in the opposite direction.

The Belgian hasn’t quite made the impact that was expected of him since moving to Monaco in summer 2017, but there have been improvements to his game this season, and he may be an excellent addition to this Leicester side.
