Five-time Champions League winners Bayern Munich are one of two clubs with the most Round of 16 appearances (16) after Madrid's tally of 17.
In their 15 previous appearances, the reigning 7-time Bundesliga winners have won 11 ties. However, Bayern are coming off a 1-3 aggregate defeat to eventual winners Liverpool in the Round of 16 last season.
The German club's other Round of 16 reverses were against Real Madrid in 2003-04, AC Milan in 2005-06 and Internazionale in 2010-11.
The Bavarian giants' 12-1 aggregate win over Sporting CP in the 2008-09 Round of 16 is the biggest win by any team at this stage of the competition.
In their 16th Champions League Round of 16 appearance, Bayern lock horns with 2012 winners Chelsea. That title match, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat on home turf for Bayern, is also the last time the Bavarian giants met the London club in a knockout round fixture of the competition.

Barcelona's 13 Champions League Round of 16 wins are the most by any club in the history of the competition.
Since losing two of their first three Round of 16 ties (2004-05 to Chelsea, 2006-07 to Liverpool), Barcelona have gone a cumulative 12-0 in their subsequent appearances at this stage of the competition.
The reigning Spanish champions became the first team to overhaul a 4-0 deficit in the Champions League when they responded to a 0-4 first leg reverse at Paris St. Germain in the 2016-17 Round of 16 with a stunning 6-1 result in the return leg. It was a game where Barca scored thrice in the last seven minutes of the game, which included 2 goals in injury time.
In their 16th consecutive Champions League Round of 16 appearance in 2019-20, Barcelona take on Italian side SSC Napoli. This would be the first competitive meeting between the two sides.
