5 players who could leave Manchester United in the January transfer window

Olé Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United fairy tale continued as the Red Devils eliminated Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup, making it 8 wins out of 8 matches for the Norwegian manager.

The former United striker has brought back free-flowing, attacking football to Old Trafford, which has unlocked the real potential of many, including Paul Pogba, who is finally showing why Manchester United splashed a whooping £89 million to re-sign him from Juventus.

The Frenchman's brilliance is getting the best out of Marcus Rashford as well, as the young English sensation is flourishing under Olé Gunnar Solskjaer in a more central role.

Manchester United look like real contenders for a top four finish in the Premier League this season and if their blistering form continues, they could eventually earn a Champions League spot next season.

However, while many players are flourishing under the new management, there are some players who seem unable to fit into the current Manchester United playing philosophy and could be on the move this January in search of game time. Here is a look at 5 players who could leave Old Trafford in this transfer window.

#5 Eric Bailly

The Ivorian defender has failed to nail down a starting berth at Manchester United since joining the Red Devils in 2016 from Spanish side Villarreal for a fee reported to be around £30 million.

Injuries have plagued Bailly's progress at Manchester United and he managed only 13 appearances in all competitions last season. He has only racked up 9 appearances this season due to the plethora of centre backs at Old Trafford.

Eric Bailly failed to impress the new manager on his first start as he picked up an unnecessary red card for a rash challenge on Bournemouth's high-flying winger Ryan Fraser, much to the Norwegian manager's chagrin.

Manchester United's pairing of Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof at the heart of their defence has shown a lot of promise with Lindelof finally showing his true defensive masterclass and it's a partnership that can last for years.

It will take a lot of hard work and dedication for the Ivorian to regain his position as a starter for Manchester United. The Ivorian has been linked with a shock move to La Liga and a move away from Old Trafford could revive his career as he is a young defender with great potential.

Arsenal are fighting for his signature as well.

#4 Matteo Darmian

Matteo Darmian has had a turbulent time at Manchester United since joining the Red Devils in 2015 from Italian side Torino for a fee reported to be around £12.7 million.

The Italian has failed to nail down a starting berth at Manchester United making only 91 appearances across four seasons for the Red Devils. Darmian's lack of opportunities for Manchester United has limited him to only 6 appearances in all competitions this season.

Darmian has fallen down the pecking order behind Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot as first choice full-backs at Old Trafford. Darmian's Manchester United career seems to nearing an end as the Italian has lately been linked with a loan move to Juventus.

A move to Juventus could end Matteo Darmian's Manchester United misery as he has mostly been stuck on the bench without making significant impact in his 4 year stay with the English giants.

#3 Andreas Pereira

Andreas Pereira joined Manchester United youth set up in 2011 from Dutch side PSV after he impressed Sir Alex Ferguson. His fine performances for the Manchester United youth side earned him a promotion to the senior team.

The Brazilian was later sent on loan spells in La Liga sides Granada and Valencia in search of more game time and top-level experience. After his impressive spell with Valencia, he expected to feature more for Manchester United this season.

Despite starting the first two Premier League matches of the season under Jose Mourinho, the youngster has found himself down the pecking order with the return of Nemanja Matic, who had a slight injury at the beginning of the season.

Pereira had the opportunity to impress Solskjaer in a FA Cup tie against Championship side Reading but failed as the Royals surprisingly dominated possession with Manchester United failing to contain the struggling Championship side.

The Brazilian has been linked with moves away from Old Trafford, but he has amazing potential and Manchester United should not risk losing out on his talent. A loan deal could benefit both parties.

#2 Antonio Valencia

Manchester United skipper Antonio Valencia has surprisingly found himself warming the bench at Manchester United. Despite assurances from Olé Gunnar Solskjaer that Valencia would remain the Manchester United captain, he has only managed one start under the former Manchester United striker.

The Ecuador international was always the first name on the Manchester United teem sheet since being converted into a make-shift right back. He has had assured performances for Manchester United down the right flank with his pace and crossing abilities as he looked to be the right-back the Red Devils had been waiting for since Gary Neville retired.

At 33 years of age, Valencia is nearing an end to his playing career, and he can do little to win his place back at Manchester United with the emergence of young Portuguese right back Diogo Dalot who joined the Red Devils in the summer. A move away from Manchester United could prolong his football career, as being stuck on the bench could force him into early retirement.

#1 Marouane Fellaini

The Belgian was Mourinho's favourite and has found limited game time since the departure of the Portuguese manager. Marouane Fellaini has made only 2 substitute appearances for the Red Devils since Olé Gunnar took over the reigns at Manchester United as the caretaker manager until the end of the season.

While Manchester United have been in scintillating form winning all their eight matches under the stewardship of the Norwegian manager, the Belgian midfielder has been stuck on the bench and has not been part of the new revolution.

This is a clear indication that the Belgian is not part of Olé Gunnar Solskjaer's plans and this trend could continue at least up to the end of the season. Fellaini's future at Old Trafford is up in the air and there have been rumours of him leaving this January as he is now deemed as surplus. A move away from Manchester United could end the Belgian's turbulent time at Old Trafford.
