The Premier League features a host of world-class goalkeepers plying their trade at various clubs in the competition. While goals win games, good defense and quality goalkeepers help win titles. That has been true in most major competitions, including the English top flight.

In recent years, Premier League teams haven't hesitated to spend big bucks to snap up top custodians like Ederson, Alisson Becker and Edouard Mendy, among others.

However, goalkeepers are also susceptible to mistakes, including a few of the aforementioned players. When that happens, their team invariably concedes goals. On that note, here's a look at the five Premier League goalkeepers who have made the most errors leading to goals since the 2020-21 league campaign:

#5 Illan Meslier (Leeds United) - 2

Illan Meslier is one of the best young goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment.

The 21-year-old Frenchman played a key role in Leeds United getting promoted to the English top flight at the end of the 2019-20 season. In his debut Premier League campaign, Meslier kept an impressive 11 clean sheets as Leeds finished a creditable ninth in the league table.

He hasn't been as impressive this campaign, though. Meslier has kept only three clean sheets in 19 games as Leeds find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old has been linked with top clubs, including Premier League giants Manchester United. It remains to be seen if Leeds will be able to keep hold of the custodian if they endure the drop to the Championship this campaign.

#4 Edouard Mendy (Chelsea) - 2

Edouard Mendy has been like a breath of fresh air since arriving at Chelsea at the start of the 2020-21 season from Rennes.

The Senegalese custodian proved to be an immediate improvement on his teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga (more on him later). Mendy kept 16 clean sheets in 31 games as the Blues finished fourth in the Premier League. He played a bigger role in the Champions League, though, keeping nine shutouts to help Chelsea to an unexpected triumph.

Having recently played his 50th game in the Premier League, Mendy has kept 24 clean sheets in 51 matches. As impressive as he has been for the club, the Senegalese has appeared fallible at times.

Nevertheless, Mendy remains one of the best custodians in the English top flight. He will hope to play a key role in Chelsea's quest to win their first league title in five years. The second-placed Blues have work to do, though, trailing runaway league leaders Manchester City by 10 points after 21 games.

#3 Nick Pope (Burnley) - 3

Nick Pope has impressed for Burnley, especially in the Premier League, since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2016 from Charlton Athletic.

The 29-year-old has played 121 games in the English top flight, all for Burnley. Pope has kept an impressive 40 clean sheets during this period, including three this season.

The Englishman has kept at least 11 clean sheets in his three previous campaigns in the competition. However, Pope has also committed five errors leading to goals in the Premier League, including three since the start of the 2020-21 season.

#2 Kepa Arrizabalaga (Chelsea) - 3

Kepa Arrizabalaga became the most expensive goalkeeper in the game's history when Chelsea splurged €80 million in the summer of 2018 to sign him from Athletic Bilbao.

However, contrary to expectations, Kepa has failed to light up the Premier League. He did keep 14 clean sheets in his debut campaign in the competition. However, the number dropped to eight in his next campaign as Kepa became synonymous with high-profile errors.

The Spaniard's fallibility in goal led Chelsea to land Edouard Mendy in the summer of 2020. Kepa has since played second fiddle to the excellent Senegalese. The 27-year-old has only played eight league games since the start of the 2020-21 season, but has already made three errors leading to goals.

With Mendy away on international duty (AFCON) in January 2022, Kepa has the opportunity to redeem himself. It remains to be seen how he fares, given his limited involvement with the first team in recent months. He kept a clean sheet in the lone league game he has played this season.

#1 Alisson Becker (Liverpool) - 4

Alisson Becker is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment.

The 2020 Premier League winner has kept an impressive 55 clean sheets for Liverpool in the competition since arriving in the summer of 2018. He kept 21 shutouts in his first campaign in the English top flight. However, since then, Alisson's clean sheet tally has progressively dwindled.

Despite playing a key role in Liverpool's first-ever Premier League triumph in 2020, Alisson has also made errors leading to goals. The Brazilian has made eight errors leading to opposition goals in the Premier League. This includes four since the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

However, Alisson seems to be a man on a mission this campaign. He has already kept a joint-highest nine clean sheets in 18 games as third-placed Liverpool eye their second league title in three years.
