5 reasons why Kylian Mbappe is better than Gabriel Jesus

Metz v Paris Saint Germain - Ligue 1
Mbappe is a star already

There aren't many people in the world who could claim that they had a host of European super clubs coveting their signature or that they were listed for the final 30 players list of the Ballon d'Or or that they are about to become the second-most expensive player in the world.

Kylian Mbappe, however, can make a claim for all those things.

The French star might just be 18-year-old, but already has the world at his feet. His jump from Monaco to Paris-Saint Germain has been smooth thus far as his unreal abilities as a footballer has made him an instant success in France's premier club.

Another young star, Gabriel Jesus, is plying his trade in England and is doing extremely well for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City. It won't quite be an exaggeration to say that these two players could be the leaders of tomorrow.

However, Kylian Mbappe currently is, and most likely, will continue to be the superior one - and here are 5 reasons why...

#5 Higher market value

Kylian Mbappe is set to cost PSG a whopping sum when he signs a permanent deal next season

We will start off with something not directly related to the pitch itself. Actually, in a way, it just might be – after all, the performances on the pitch are what determine the market value of a player. If you play well, your value rises – it is as simple as that.

Currently, the French starlet is valued at €90 million, which is double of Gabriel Jesus' valuation of €45 million. This in itself is a big testament as to how the young Frenchman has risen over the last year.

This time last year, Mbappe wasn’t really much of a known entity and was only just beginning to feature in the first team regularly. Indeed, his market value was a mere €4 million compared to Gabriel Jesus’ €20 million – who was much more of a known entity than Mbappe last November – but the way the former shot himself to stardom has been nothing short of exemplary.

Notably, this is just the beginning of what could be an unbelievably meteoric rise, and I, for one, don't see Jesus surpassing Mbappe in this aspect.

#4 European brilliance at 18

Juventus v AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: Second Leg
Mbappe scored against Buffon before Lionel Messi could

When I was 18 years old, I was weeping in the prayer room asking God to help me pass in the A-level chemistry exam the next day. Yes, weeping. That’s what happens when you don’t prepare for an A-level paper 6-7 months before the exam.

Obviously, God didn’t listen and I failed. Kylian Mbappe, though, was crying over which club to choose between approximately 34826 European teams that were after his signature. In the end, Paris-Saint Germain snapped him up on a loan deal with an option to buy him for €180 million next season – which they will obviously exercise.

The fact is, this is an 18-year-old kid that has 8 Champions League goals and might just shatter the record for the most number of goals in the competition by the time his career ends. The same can’t be said about Gabriel Jesus, who might have started his European career well, but wasn’t playing in the premier competition when he was 18.

At 18, Kylian Mbappe has 8 Champions League and that feat sounds even better when you consider the fact that he...

#3 Led a young Monaco side to an improbable Champions League semi-final

Manchester City FC v AS Monaco - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg
Mbappe celebrates after scoring against Manchester City

Before every Champions League season, every fan has a set of teams that they think will feature in the semi-final. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are always among the common names that spill out of most mouths.

Among others, Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain are also considered for the place, but the fun part, is that the latter are yet to feature in the top four after being bought by the Qataris.

While PSG are always considered as the favourite to go furthest in the Champions League as the representatives of France, it was Monaco that did Ligue 1 proud by making it to the semi-finals last year.

Leonardo Jardim’s team was young-blooded and highly talented, featuring the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva among others – and they were captained by Radamel Falcao.

However, it was Kylian Mbappe whose performances in Europe allowed Monaco to go past some of the best teams in the competition and make it to the semis. His performances earned him the Golden Boy award for 2017 – which is given to the best U21 player in the world.

#2 Better scoring rate

Manchester City v Swansea City - Premier League
Gabriel Silva has set the Premier League on fire

There isn’t much to be said about this aspect of their games, except for writing down their statistical achievements in this regard and then comparing the two. Despite the fact that Mbappe is two years younger than his Brazilian counterpart, his scoring-rate is astonishing, to say the least.

While Gabriel Jesus enjoys a very good scoring rate in Europe, Kylian Mbappe still exceeds him in overall matters. The Frenchman has scored 33 goals from 72 appearances with a ratio of 0.45 goals-per-game. Meanwhile, Jesus has 44 goals in 110 appearances at a ratio of 0.4 goals-per-game.

This stat alone proves Mbappe’s abilities, which is also further glorified when one considers the fact that the former Monaco starlet primarily plays on the wings, unlike Gabriel Jesus – who almost always starts from the centre.

This makes his scoring rate even more impressive and it is for this very reason as to why so many clubs had their tongues lolling out for him this past summer.

#1 Better all-round abilities

Sporting CP v AS Monaco - Pre-Season Friendly
Is there anything Mbappe can't do?

A no-brainer of sorts, when one watches Kylian Mbappe dazzle the opponents with the ball at his feet, it becomes apparent that he is a supreme talent that appears in the fraternity once in a decade. It is actually hard to figure out what he can’t do.

In retrospect, Gabriel Jesus is a fantastic player – of this, there is no doubt – but lags behind the French star in terms of all-round abilities. Don’t believe it? Here is some statistical proof:

Gabriel Jesus has made 0.6 dribbles-per-game and 0.8 key passes-per-game this season while Kylian Mbappe has made 3 dribbles-per-game and 1.8 key passes-per-game so far this season.

Even to the naked eye, one can infer that the teenager has much more to his game than the Brazilian. When congested with no room to breathe, Mbappe uses his brilliant ball-control abilities to bail himself out of crammed situations.

He doesn’t really have to rely on his team-mates to score goals and can create something out of nothing with his abilities - something that we are yet to see in Jesus on the same scale.

Keeping in mind the aforementioned points, it isn't hard to conclude by saying that Kylian Mbappe is certainly the more talented youngster. Well, at this point in their careers, at least.
