5 Ronaldo records that Messi cannot break

Who is the greatest of all time?
Who is the greatest of all time?

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been the the two best players in the world since 2007, with the two players pushing football to heights it has never reached before due to their exciting play, unparalleled goal scoring prowess, and longevity.

With their great successes over the last decade or so, both Messi and Ronaldo have set innumerable footballing records and have all but claimed the record books for themselves.

Just as there are a number of records that Messi holds that Ronaldo will most likely never break, the same applies when its the other way around, and this article will look at 5 records Ronaldo holds that will be virtually impossible for Messi to break.

#5 Winning every trophy at 2 different clubs (in the top 5 leagues)

When Cristiano Ronaldo won the Club World Cup during the 2014/15 campaign, he became the first player to win every individual and team trophy at two separate clubs.

Having achieved this once with Manchester United was an incredible feat in itself, but it was an accomplishment that Lionel Messi had also achieved with Barcelona.

Nevertheless, Cristiano would go one better than his arch rival by doing this with Real Madrid as well.

Winning every trophy available at one club is a rare feat that even greats like O Fenômeno Ronaldo and Zidane never achieved in their illustrious careers, but to do it at two clubs is truly outstanding.

This is an achievement that Messi will never equal, in part due to his hesitation to leave Barcelona, but also due to how difficult a feat it actually is. This is one of Ronaldo's greatest achievements.

#4 Scoring 50+ goals for six consecutive seasons

Ronaldo scored at least 50 goals in all competitions for six consecutive seasons.

Starting from the 2010/11 season and lasting until the 2015/16 season, Ronaldo managed to score, at the very least, 50 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid.

This is an unprecedented feat that seems unlikely to ever be repeated, and more to the point, is a record that Lionel Messi can only dream about having as the Argentine legend only managed to achieve this feat three times in a row, which is half as many as Ronaldo did.

For Lionel Messi to break this record or at the very least equal it, he would have to score 50 goals every season for the next six seasons!

And despite the Argentine constantly making the impossible look possible, it does seem that this staggering record by Ronaldo is safe from Messi's clutches.

#3 Scoring 40+ goals a season in two of the top 5 leagues

During the 2010/11 season for Real Madrid, Ronaldo put in a stellar campaign, scoring 53 goals in the process. .

Having previously reached the 40 goal mark in his fabled 2007/08 season with Manchester United, by matching this feat at Madrid he became the first player in the top five leagues to score more than 40 goals in a season for two separate clubs.

Whilst this record isn't impossible for Messi to equal due to a lack of skill, it is seemingly impossible due to his utter refusal to leave his beloved Barcelona and test himself in another league.

With Ronaldo currently on 20 goals for Juventus with about half the season left, he could improve this record to three leagues!

#2 Being top scorer in Champions League for 6 consecutive seasons

Cristiano Ronaldo is the man for the big occasion, and no occasion is bigger in club football than the Champions League.

His impressive record of being the top goalscorer in the Champions League for six consecutive seasons is clear evidence of this.

Lionel Messi has managed this feat three time consecutively, which is a remarkable feat in itself; however, Ronaldo's record of six consecutive seasons is double that of Messi's personal best of three.

It seems very unlikely for Messi to break as it would require him to be the top goalscorer in the Champions League from this season until 2024!

And with the Argentine already in his early thirties, he would be nearly 40 by the time he would've achieved that. Therefore, this record seems quite safe for Ronaldo.

#1 First player to appear in the FIFA word XI for 3 separate teams

At the end of 2018 Ronaldo was once again picked for the World XI, by UEFA, for the 13th time (also a record), having been in the eleven almost every year since 2004.

Because of this, Ronaldo became the second player in history to achieve this feat at three different clubs, with the previous record being held, solely, by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite it technically being a joint record, it's a record nonetheless, and is one that seems nigh on impossible for Messi to equal or break.

The thought of Messi playing for two other teams in Europe seems virtually impossible, with the footballing legend having spent his entire club career at Barcelona.

There seems to be a bit of a running theme throughout these records, and it may be argued that some of these records are impossible for Messi to break, or even equal, because of his reluctance to leave Barcelona.

While that is most certainly a contributing factor, it doesn't diminish Ronaldo's achievements, as it shows that, unlike Messi, that Cristiano has been able to perform at the most elite level for multiple clubs, in different leagues, countries, and systems, which is an aspect of their rivalry which will always slant heavily in the Portuguese's favour.
