A lot of Serie A stars have gone on to succeed in the Premier League

Widely regarded as one of the best leagues in the world alongside the Premier League and La Liga, Serie A has always been a platform for a great bunch of talented and promising players.

While La Liga has the highest number of Ballon d'Or wins (21 wins by 12 players), more players have won the Ballon d'Or while playing in Serie A (18 wins by 14 players) than any other league in the world.

The big stars like Paul Pogba, Mohamed Salah, Phillipe Coutinho and many others found their feet in Serie A before going on to make great things in the Premier League.

Even now, there are many players playing in the league who could light up the Premier League if they make a move to Enaland.

Here is a look at five such players:

#5 Suso

AC Milan v US Sassuolo - Serie A
Suso is the only player on this list to have Premier League experience.

The former Liverpool man joined AC Milan in 2015 and his career has been rejuvenated since then. He has been performing brilliantly for the last two seasons and has become the internal part of I Rossoneri.

Although he mostly plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger, Suso possesses a good left foot which is handy for set-pieces. He is also known for his technical abilities and is capable of opening up tight games with his dribbling and vision.

He has scored 6 goals along with 5 assists in 24 Serie A starts this season and also provided 9 assists in Serie A last season, which is the most among AC Milan players.

His brilliant performances for the club also caught the attention of Spain's manager, Julen Lopetegui and he handed him his first international cap during a friendly match against Russia in 2017.

Currently, a lot of Premier League clubs are keeping close tabs on him. Spurs were linked with him in the January transfer window and Liverpool is also plotting a move to bring him back to Anfield.

#4 Gianluigi Donnarumma

AC Milan v Udinese Calcio - Serie A
Donnarumma is just 19 and can only get better

It is hard to believe that Donnarumma is still 19 and has nearly made 100 appearances for the Rossoneri. He will certainly replace the retiring Buffon as Italy's No. 1 for years to come.

'Gigio' made his debut at the tender age of 16 and has established himself in the starting line-up ahead of more experienced keepers and has received a lot of praise from many pundits for his maturity and ability to cope with the pressure of being a the goalkeeper for a top side.

However, considering that AC Milan is in decline and hasn't won the league title for quite a while now, it will be interesting to see whether he will stay at the club or will move elsewhere.

Clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea may come for him if David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois decide to leave the clubs in the summer.

He may also be a long-term solution for Liverpool's goalkeeping problems, but Loris Karius is currently doing a commendable job at Anfield.

#3 Lorenzo Insigne

US Citta di Palermo v SSC Napoli - Serie A
The finest Italian striker of his generation

One of the most talented Italian players of his generation, Insigne is making his presence felt with his wonderful displays.

Capable of playing in any position across the front line, he already has 7 goals along with 8 assists in 26 Serie A starts this season.

Best known for his dribbling, vision, and passing skills, he is at his best when playing behind the striker but, he is also pretty versatile – he can play on either wing and even as a striker.

He often finds the best pass for attackers to thrive on and is also capable of scoring goals from a distance. His most prolific season was in 2016-2017 when he scored 18 goals and provided 9 assists in the league.

He has been linked with Liverpool in the past to replace Phillipe Coutinho and would be a brilliant signing for the club. He will provide them with the creativity in the middle, which they have been lacking since the departure of Coutinho.

#2 Mauro Icardi

FC Internazionale v AC Chievo Verona - Serie A
Mauro Icardi is amongst one of the best strikers in the Serie A.

One of the deadliest goal-scorers in recent times, the Inter Milan striker has scored 89 league goals for the club in 147 games which is a very healthy return for a striker playing in such a big league.

Icardi is best known for his strength, technical intelligence, and speed. The Argentine international has a genuine eye for goals and has been finishing as Inter Milan's top scorer for the last three seasons. He also won the top scorer award in the league for the 2014-2015 season.

With Inter Milan struggling for some time now (currently sitting in the 5th spot on the table, 19 points behind the leader, Juventus) it would be challenging for them to keep hold of such a special talent like Icardi.

Clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing him, while Chelsea also wants to sign the striker. It seems to be just a matter of time before another club makes a move for him.

#1 Paulo Dybala

Juventus v Udinese Calcio - Serie A
Dybala is one of the hottest talents in Europe

Another Argentine attacker on the list, Dybala is one of the hottest prospects in the world right now and has been monitored closely by many clubs across Europe.

Known for his pace, technique and finishing skills, he joined Juventus from Palermo in 2015, and the striker is doing a great job for the La Vecchia Signora (The Old Lady) since then. He has scored 47 goals for the club in 87 league games since then and has been a part of the Serie A Team of the Year for the last two seasons.

Manchester United has been linked with him recently, and Chelsea and Manchester City also have made contact with Juventus over him.

Although he will command a huge price in the transfer market, it will be interesting to see where he will play in the next season.
