#3 Barcelona (Champions League)

Barcelona have had a torrid start to life under new manager Ronald Koeman. After eight league games this season, the Blaugrana find themselves in a lowly 13th place in the 2020-21 La Liga table.

However, their indifferent season hasn't spilled over into Europe, where the Blaugrana have won all their four games this season to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 with two games to spare.

Koeman's men started their 2020-21 European campaign with a 5-2 home win over Ferencvaros before winning 2-0 at Juventus, who were without a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. The Blaugrana then completed the double over Dynamo Kyiv to roar into the Round of 16, although they have not yet won their group.

As is usually the case, Lionel Messi has been among the goals in the Champions League this season, with the diminutive Argentine's first of three goals making him the first player in competition history to score in 16 consecutive seasons.

#2 Manchester City (Champions League)

Manchester City are yet another side whose performances in domestic and European competitions couldn't have been in starker contrast.

The Cityzens are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League with 12 points from eight games, Manchester City are 13th in the league table. However, in the Champions League, Pep Guardiola's men have been a different side altogether.

After beating Porto 3-1 at home in their Champions League opener, Manchester City have won their next three games in the competition without conceding another goal to seal their spot in the Round of 16 with two matchdays to spare.

New signing Ferran Torres has hit the ground running at the Etihad. Though he was not scored in six Premier League games, the young Spaniard has netted thrice in four games in the Champions League to see his side through to the next stage of the competition.

#1 Bayern Munich (Champions League)

Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich

Most top teams in the continent have failed to get going in both their domestic and European campaigns this season, but reigning Bundesliga and Champions League winners Bayern Munich have been a glorious exception in this regard.

The Bavarian giants have scored 28 goals in just eight league games to sit atop the Bundesliga table while in the Champions League, they have been arguably even more impressive.

Bayern Munich have scored 14 times in four games this season to extend their winning run in the Champions League to 15 consecutive games, which is four better than the previous longest winning streak in the competition.

As is usually the case, Robert Lewandowski has been among the goals for Bayern Munich in 2020-21 too. Although he has netted 'only' thrice in the competition this season, he has already scored 11 times in only seven games in the Bundesliga.

Once again, Bayern Munich look like the team to beat in both the Bundesliga and in Europe. The Bavarian giants will need some stopping.
