It is not surprising that this massive scoreline was achieved by La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid. A team having Ferenc Puskas, and Francisco Gento scored 11 goals past an Elche side that had no answers to Real Madrid’s attacking prowess. Puskas scored 4 and Spanish striker Pepillo scored 5 goals in a destruction of Elche.
This Los Blancos team had won 5 European titles in a row from 1956-1960.Surprisingly this Real Madrid team, boasting talents like Alfredo Di Stefano and Puskas, did not win the Liga that season. A dominant Barcelona side, coached by Helenio Herrera walked away with the title.
