What's the story?

Ahead of Arsenal's clash with Valencia in the Europa League semi-final, BBC has reported that Aaron Ramsey has played his last match for the Gunners. The Welshman suffered a hamstring injury while the Gunners played against Napoli in Italy recently.

In case you didn't know...

The North London club chose not to renew Ramsey's contract, forcing the midfielder to seek a move away from the club where he has played for 11 years. Ultimately, Ramsey decided to join Serie A champions, Juventus.

Having suffered a hamstring injury in mid-April, there were slight hopes among the fans that Ramsey would don the Arsenal jersey once more before he leaves the club. However, as the season comes closer to an end, it seems unlikely that Ramsey will play for Arsenal again.

The heart of the matter

Since his injury, Unai Emery's men are yet to win a game. The Gunners are on a three-match losing streak but they will be hoping for a positive result against Valencia tomorrow night.

The Europa League competition remains the only hope of the club lifting a trophy this season. Currently ensued in a battle to finish among the top four in the EPL, Arsenal are fifth in the standings, two points behind Chelsea who are in fourth.

Should the Gunners lift the Europa League trophy, it would guarantee them qualification into the UEFA Champions League next season. Ramsey has been an extremely vital player for Emery in the Europa League thus far.

The 28-year-old made seven appearances in the competition, scoring two goals and laying one assist. His absence has been greatly felt in the last few games. Fans would definitely be upset over the matter that Ramsey has played his last game for the club.

What's next?

Arsenal will host Valencia at the Emirates Stadium for the first leg of their semi-final clash. Last season, the Gunners were knocked out of the competition by Atletico Madrid at the same stage.
